Here’s my plan for cross stitching this week: I was going to work on the Sunday project yesterday, which was Sunday, but that didn’t happen, and work on it again today but I’m thinking . . I have a Veterans’ Day project to start Thursday so I’m going to stitch on the Sunday project Monday (today), Tuesday and Wednesday, then I’ll start my Veterans’ Day Project on Thursday.
My Veterans’ Day project is Free & Brave by The Drawn Thread.
This is one of those times when I had to say to myself “If everyone else can do it, I can do it!” There are satin sitched leaves and flowers. I’ve never done those but they should be easy. Then, there’s the Leviathan, the Pine Stitch, the Double Diagonal Cross. Let’s just send this poor beginning stitcher over the edge with a tiny little chart that has lots of hard stuff in it!
But . . you know what I say . . If everyone else can do it . . you know the rest!
The piece is only 76 stitches by 76 stitches and they say to do it on 32 count but I was going to use 36 count and use one strand but now I’m thinking I’d better just use 32 with two strands so I get good coverage on the satin stitchc and whatever else might look better with full coverage. Now I kinda feel like I should start this today so I can figure out the hard stitches.
It’s only going to be 4.75″ square when it’s finished. How hard can that be? Don’t answer that! 🙂
Seriously, it’s that side vine where the flowers have hard stitches. If I get to that point and can’t figure it out, I’ll just revise that area and do something that’s easy!
I was just thinking . . if I work on this Thursday, Friday and Saturday, I could finish it but that’s the crazy girl talking. There’s no way. 76 x 76 = 5,776 stitches but that’s EVERY stitch. There’s a lot of stitches so I’m going to say it’s 70% coverage so that/s 4,043 stitches. If I were to do 500 stitches per day, it would take me 8 days so if I start this on Thursday, 11/11, maybe I’ll just work on it every day except Sunday and have it finished by 11/20. That’s 9 days.
Depending on how much I struggle with the special stitches, my goal is to have this finished by Saturday, November 20.

I loved that chart. I did do the satin stitch leaves but the stitches for the hearts (flowers) no way I could do that on aida so I just switched those to regular cross stitches on mine. The satin stitch leaves were kind of fun tho.

I’m thinking I’m going to do the same thing.

You can do it!! Love that chart! Now I’m going to have to go look at it…lol

If the chart is tiny, put it on your copier and enlarge it so you can read it.

The chart is nice and large. It’s about twice the size of the finished piece.

You can do this!! You will do a wonderful job on it!

I’ll try and if the specialty stitches give me grief, I’ll make plan x-stitches and be done.

Your stitching is lovely and I look forward to reading about your daily adventures. Hope you are enjoying each stitch and not worrying too much about how many stitches you must do every day to finish a project. Enjoy the journey!

Thank you and no, I don’t worry about much but certainly don’t worry about the number of stitches. It’s a goal and sometimes if I’m wasting time on the computer, I remind myself that I need to stitch 500 stitches. It’s a motivator but it doesn’t bother me if I don’t. In fact, today I haven’t stitched a single stitch but did get the salsa made and canned so I’m happy.

I’ve never done specialty stitches either, but I would watch a Youtube or two and practice on a scrap piece of your linen. You can do this!
judy.blog@gmail.com says
That’s probably a good idea – practice on a scrap piece. Thanks!

You might need to place the piece in a small hoop for the satin stitch. Just be sure they lay flat on the fabric and with two strands lay parallel to each other. Not hard at all just a little bit more fiddly than cross stitch.
