Thank you all for researching and sending me links and info. I’ve found puppies from what seem to be reputable breeders near me and some not so near me. We will be very careful with whatever we do.
Vince still has not agreed and may never agree for us to get another dachshund. We’re a team so we both have to say yes. Of course, there are exceptions and mostly those occur when I’m quietly adding floss or linen or charts. It’s a little difficult to sneak in a dachshund but . . you know we take in strays so if one showed up on my doorstep, we couldn’t say no so maybe I need to sneak a pile of cash to someone to find me a puppy and leave him on my porch! 🙂
No, I wouldn’t do that but the thought has crossed my mind.
I’m still a little concerned about having Rita, who is really a high maintenance dog, and adding a puppy. One of my biggest concerns is Rita’s fear of thunder. She goes into a full panic attack when it thunders or when there are fireworks and for some reason, this area has fireworks for everything – hours of fireworks for the homecoming football game, a month of fireworks for the 4th of July and New Years. Seriously . . I thought it would never end. Vince was fed up about Day 3. By about Day 20, I was thinking . . there are advantages to living in a city where this kind of stuff is not allowed but I’m not quite ready for that.
Anyway, I do not want another dog that flips out over thunder. In Texas, it wasn’t so bad because we only had storms a few times a year but here, we have a lot more thunderstorms. I feel bad for her because she truly is scared. I feel bad for us because even in basement, she can still hear thunder . . next door or in far western Oklahoma! Old folks need sleep and we don’t get much sleep on stormy nights. We’ve tried meds, most of which needed to be given half an hour or so before the event; we have a Thundershirt. We’ve tried the things you plug in that emit calming whatever . . nothing has worked.
So, I have a lot to think about . . but til Vince says yes, I don’t need to waste my thoughts but, because y’all gave me some good info, when it is time to think about it, I know where to start.
