I am not naming names but you might find her blog interesting.
This morning I got an email from said friend and this is how it started:
Clearly the no buying charts rule I am ignoring at the moment. I may ignore it until the end of the year and then NEXT year stitch only from stash with only floss purchases.
Then there was this link to New Year Sampler with Alphabets by Owl Forest.
My response to this enabler friend was (1) YES! Let’s start after the new year with the no chart buying rule and (2) I ordered the chart too!
I’ve heard about Owl Forest designs but had never seen one, or at least taken the time to really look at them.
I almost didn’t get it because I like things that are “connected”. Having motifs just floating around on the fabric can be challenging for me. But, I’m a more experienced stitcher now so I hope I can get through this without too many mistakes.

Look at the ornaments you could do with the individual bits in that pattern.

Exactly what I thought! So, what you’re saying it . . that was really smart for me to break my “no buy commitment” and buy that. Right?

This made me laugh! I told myself no buying for awhile and then I went to a local shop to buy one skein of floss that would work for my other choices for Eliza Stone chart. I thought Denise had an wonderful idea of personalizing it. Anyway…..I ended up buying several skeins of floss, 3 different fabrics, and then while I was waiting for them to ring up there was a chart by Lori Holt called Flea Market Flowers that caught my eye. Not what I usually am drawn to but I know that come winter this chart will make me think of spring. Of course I can’t do the no buying next year because I’m going to have to order the piece you’re working on for Teresa Kogut. 😀

That’s part of the beauty of all those floating motifs – you can be off in placement of one by a stitch or two or three and it really doesn’t matter. 🙂

Great to know!

I would say, don’t worry about buying charts or anything if you can afford it. You are not going to be able to take it with you and if it makes you happy, you should do it without feeling bad! It would be different if you were going out clubbing and wasting money, but you don’t. You are very frugal and you deserve nice things. Besides you are making things to make your home look better or you are giving them as gifts! So go for it!!

That’s pretty much how I feel except . . I want to finish some things and there are so many things I want to stitch and it seems crazy to keep buying charts but obviously, I’m not too worried about it!

I looked on the Owl Forest site and found something I would be interested in ordering. But I was stumped. Since it is a Russian company how is the conversion made into American dollars? I got all the way to checkout without a conversion. Help! And thank you.
judy.blog@gmail.com says
I think if you go through paypal or your bank, they take care of it. I googled “convert Russion curence to dollars” and was able to put in the number for one I was looking at and got the conversion that way.
When I’ve ordered international, if using paypal or my bank, it’s always taken care of everything and sometimes there’s a currence conversion fee (or something like that).
I’ve listened to several floss tubes in the past who have ordered from Owl Forest and I think they’re very reputable.

I find the “no buying charts” rule more of a guideline – a very loose one!
The thing about the Owl Forest chart is that each motif feels like a start and finish and if your placement counting is off, it really doesn’t matter as they’re often not symmetrical.

That’s going to be what I say too. If I’m wrong and someone notices, I’m going to say that’s how I intended it to be! 🙂
Yes, who needs rules about buying or not buying charts anyway.

Shouldn’t there be a caveat about PDF verses paper? LOL
judy.blog@gmail.com says
So, are you suggestion pdf charts should not count towards purchases? If so, I like that idea!

That is really cool. Did you see this one?
