Saturday Addie went out to get our mail. There were packages that were not for us.
Me: Addie, will you please take these back to the mail box and raise the flag?
Addie: Raise the flag?
Me: Yes, put the packages in the mail box and put the flag up.
Addie: I don’t know how to put the flag up.
Me: Walk out there. I’ll stand here on the porch and tell you want to do.
She went out there, opened the box, put the packages in.
Me: See the red flag on the side of the box? Lift it up.
She did it and came running back to the house. I was thinking . . they’ve never lived in a house with a mail box at the street. They’ve always been in town and the box is on the side of their house. Now, they have a clothes pin and they clip outgoing mail to the box so the mail carrier sees it.
No. We have a real flag pole in our front yard and she thought I was saying (1) Put these packages in the mail box. (2) Stop by the flag and raise it up.
I cracked up. I told her .. don’t worry . . I don’t know how to raise that flag either!
