As you might imagine, Nutella isn’t my favorite. Not only do I not like chocolate, but I don’t think I like hazelnuts either. Addie loves Nutella and I get it every now and then but it’s a special treat and not something I keep.
A month or so ago, she had asked when I was going to get Nutella again and I told her the next time I placed a grocery order, I’d get Nutella. As it turns out, Walmart was out of the small containers and the one I got was pretty large. It was a delivery order so I wasn’t looking at the container and apparently wasn’t paying a lot of attention or I would have noticed that it was a 33.5 oz. jar. Addie was thrilled when she saw it.
Today I was working on putting up more green beans and I had helping sort the small, frying size beans from the larger snapping beans. She was grumbling and asked “Why do you have to do all this? Why can’t you just buy green beans in the store?”
I was explaining that fresh is better. These were home grown and I much prefer those.
She didn’t see why I had to have 50 jars of green beans (her made up number!) when I can just go to the store and buy green beans when I need them.
I told her . . if there’s ever a food shortage, you’ll thank me for growing and canning green beans!
She said “Don’t worry about canning any for me . . just get me a big jar of Nutella!”
I asked if she had to eat Nutella every day for a year, wouldn’t she get tired of it and she said “Not tired enough that I’d want green beans!”
OK . . Nutella for Addie, green beans for the rest of us! 🙂

She will eventually appreciate how you expanded her life experiences. It does take time but she’ll have memories better than she sounds now! I sure wish I had some home canned green beans…the best!

ohhh a jar of Nutella as one of Addie’s Christmas presents. We do cereal for everyone as one Christmas Son-in-law was up and ate all the cereal. So the granddaughters called and asked only for cereal. So I told them to find out their parents favorite and they received a box also gift wrapped. LOL

That’s funny about the SIL eating all the cereal! Great idea. A jar of Nutella in her stocking will make her very happy. Maybe even a note that Santa will send a jar once a month to Granny’s house for her to take home.

It was so funny when we walked in with wrapped presents & the girls knew but their parents didn’t .. hehehehehe Kodak moment. So now they look forward to their favorite cereal. One year we gave him a case of catsup as he loves it .

When you remove the green beans from the canning jars, do you cook them any specific length of time to kill any botulism germs? I remember my MIL did.

I boil them (all low acid home canned food) at least 10 minutes.
