Last night I was looking for something on the blog and came across this picture.
That was 2012 and our first Texas garden. The landscape timbers were for building the raised bed for the asparagus. We had PVC pipe over rebar with plastic landscaping fencing to keep the deer out that year. The next year we extended the garden to 100 x 100 and had the high fence put up.
Do I miss the big garden? Yes. I miss the variety and quantities I was able to grow there.
Different kinds of pumpkins and squash, artichokes. I’ll never have the room here to grow those huge vines that take up so much room. Would I trade having a big garden space for being so close to Addie? Nope! Never.
We’re getting older. In 2012 when we built the big garden area, we were almost ten years younger than we are now. The photos of the big garden bring back fun memories but not nearly as fun as counting down the days til I can pick Addie up at school and she’ll spend the weekend with us.
There’s a time and a season for everything.

Yes, as Ecclesiastes tells us, there is a season for everything in life. It is good when we accept that and know what season we are in. You have been, and are now where you’re meant to be. Memories to enjoy and memories to make! Always giving thanks!

I know what you mean. Last year I worked my tail off substituting at our Elementary school. This year not so much. My daughter, son-in-law, precious granddaughter, their two cats and Corgi have moved in with us while they look for another house. Substituting just doesn’t seem as important as spending time with the cats, Zeus (the Corgi) and Zelda (9 months)when she gets home from daycare. We’re trying to talk them into staying permanently. We’re older (66 and 71) and it would be so great to see her growing!

I’m one year older than you and I wouldn’t mind living next door to Chad or even in a Granny Pad in their yard if it were just me. Zelda is 9 months now but tomorrow, she’ll be 3 and then 9 and you won’t believe how quickly she grows so yes, spend every minute you can with her.

Seeing that photo of Vince – my first thought was of his green shirts!

I’m so happy for you both that she grows up with you (I’ve talked before about my jealousy 😉
I have grown squash on wire mesh grids 4×8. They climb nicely and then over the top and down the other side. Could easily stake up 2 of those in a single garden box. Delicata, butternut, spaghetti squash. Food for thought….no pun intended!

Thanks for that idea! I like the idea of growing them on a wire mesh grid. I could probably plant them in buckets at the base of the grid and help with bug and fungus control too. Thanks.
