Not literally running, but we’ve been busy all day.
Chad, Nicole and Addie spent the night last night. Addie had to be at the game site this morning at 8 and it was 25 minutes away so I figured they’d be leaving here by 7:30 so I got up a little after 5, got myself dressed, fixed blueberry muffins and bacon in the microwave. Made a big pot of hot chocolate so we could all bring a cup to the game.
From the game, Chad, Nicole and Addie went to run errands in Joplin. Vince and I ran by Aldi and picked up a few things. Vince came out with a big box. He found one outdoor chair he liked at Aldi but wanted to see if the other Aldi had more so we ran over there. They had three so he got those . . now we have four. They’re red, wooden Adirondack chairs and I can’t wait to get them set up on our deck.
Next stop was Chick-fil-A. Our store has been closed since Covid first got bad in 2020 and we thought it was still closed. We were headed for the drive thru and Vince said “I think the inside is open.” He pulled over, looked inside. Yes. It looked open but there were only a couple of people inside. We parked, went in and they’ve been open since June. We ate inside!
We came home and shortly after we got home, Chad, Nicole and Addie met us back at the house. Chad went downstairs where Vince was watching football. Nicole was talking to her aunt on the phone and after a few minutes, Nicole said “You’re not going to be happy with me!” Her aunt and uncle were in the area. They had been to another game near here and they were coming by. I didn’t mind. I like her aunt and uncle but .. my house is never clean enough for people I don’t know well to drop in and with Chad, Nicole and Addie having been here last night and today and us being gone most of the day, it was more of a mess than normal. I told Nicole “Help me pick up . . FAST!” So, we giggled and got things kinda picked up.
While they were still here, a neighbor called to see if I wanted to come pick green beans so I waited til Nicole’s aunt and uncle left, then Addie played around on my bicycle for a while, then Nicole and Chad left.
Addie was tired and a bit grumpy. I asked her if she wanted to go with me and pick beans. No! I don’t like picking beans and I don’t even like green beans! OK! I talked her into going with me and she had a blast. She enjoyed picking the beans, then the neighbor gave her a ride in his RTV and found her a watermelon. They looked for a cantaloupe but they were all gone.
I cleaned enough green beans for dinner and the whole time, she was saying “I’m not eating them!” After they were done, I told her . . try just one! They taste so fresh and so healthy and nothing like canned grean beans. She agreed to try one and she loved them.
Leftover roast beef, baked potatoes and fresh green beans. And now, Addie likes green beans.
She’s spending the night here tonight. I’ll meet her parents halfway sometime tomorrow afternoon and give her back. They have a makeup game Tuesday afternoon and that’s her last game. I told her “You are mine on weekends!” I hope I can pick her up after school on Friday and keep her for the weekend this coming week. Chad enjoys having her on weekends because he gets home late on weekdays but a lot of weekends, they have so much to get done, they feel like they’re dragging her around and at least, things move way more slowly at our house.
We’ll take it one weekend at a time and I’ll be happy for whatever time I get with her.

I’m so terribly jealous of Addie. My grandparents lived on the other side of the globe because we immigrated when I was a baby. I do love ‘watching’ your relationship here on your blog. Thank you for sharing with us 🙂

I am so blessed to be able to have the relationship I have with Addie. Even when I was far away, we had a good relationship but my far away wasn’t nearly like your far away. Vince was raised as you were . . never knowing his grandparents. Mine meant so much to me, it’s hard to imagine what my life would be like now had it not been for them. I’m glad you enjoy watching our life together here.

Who wouldn’t prefer fresh green beans to canned beans! I’m glad you can get Addie to try things. Our two greats that live nearest us are such picky eaters–they won’t eat potatoes!! What child won’t eat potatoes??

I don’t know . . there are always going to be things kids don’t like. For me, it’s frustrating to see kids turn their noses up at so many foods but, on the other hand, pick your battles. My parents pretty much put food in front of us and we ate it or we didn’t but there weren’t snack foods in our house so we knew not enough what we were given usually meant a growling tummy through the night. Even with that, I hate canned green peas. Apparently my mom loved them because we had them often. The rule was that we had to eat a little bit of everything before we could leave table. I remember sitting at the table crying after everyone else had left the table because I knew I’d die if I ate a green pea. To this day, I can eat frozen or fresh green peas but canned ones . . yuck! I use them in Rita’s food and catch myself holding my breath so I don’t have to smell them.
But . . potatoes?? There are so many ways to fix potatoes and to me, they taste different depending on how you fix them. I can’t imagine not liking potatoes. That’s why keto is so hard for me – no potatoes or rice.

Sounds like a very nice weekend. And your large home accommodates them all being there. What fun and making good memories.
