Unrealistic Expectations

It’s so easy to see traits in others that you don’t see in yourself . . or at least that’s how it is with me. Chad is such a dreamer. He loves OLD vehicles and he’ll find one at an auction. The body needs to be almost totally replaced. There’s no engine. There’s just nothing there and he’s sure he can fix it up and make it into a showstopper. He has a two car garage. My grandpa’s old pickup will always be in the garage. Nicole’s SUV will always stay in the garage. Chad’s pickup sits out. He can’t have a car he’s putting back together sitting in his yard for the world to see in the city limits with the red tag man constantly on the prowl.

I hate being a wet blanket but I want to say . . there will be a time (hopefully) when you’ll live on land and have a workshop and you can do these things. Besides working a LOT of hours right now, this just isn’t the time. But I don’t want him ever to be too old and look back and wish he had restored old vehicles but his mom talked him out of it so . . I keep my mouth shut for the most part.

This morning I got up early, thanks to a very, very, very noisy vehicle that went by at 4:15 a.m. In the one year (exactly . . today!) that I’ve been here, that’s the second time it happened. The first time it happened, Addie was here and she said “That kid must have a bad mother because no one told him it wasn’t nice to make so much noise!” I wanted to say . . or he has a nice mom and he doesn’t listen!

Anyway, I knew Vince was going off with his buddy and I’d have at least the morning to myself and probably not have to cook, not have to do much of anything. I told myself . . today may be the first day you stitch 1,000 stitches in one day. Pie in the sky! 7 p.m. and I’ve stitched 450. I’ll be doing good to stitch as many as I did yesterday.

The construction guys were here. I had to look at stain with them. We had to decide about the height of the roof, which the builder thought was going to be taller than Vince wanted it to be but Vince wasn’t here so . . another decision I had to make. Then Vince got home and we had to run to town.

Just now, I laughed to myself . . I’m just like Chad. I always think I can do more than I can do but I suppose that’s better than setting my sights too low, right.

I’ll keep stitching and see how far I can get before bed time . . which may be earlier than I’d like after waking up so early.
