I love reading the Kindle and my old one is about five years old and I’ve noticed the battery isn’t holding a charge like it used to. This morning when I picked it up, it needed charging and I think I just charged it a couple of days ago. Part of the beauty of the Paperwhite is that the charge lasts forever. I was thinking . . what if there comes a time when Kindles are hard to get so I mentioned to Vince that I was going to order a new one. He told me he had seen something where they were coming out with a new one and the previous generation was on sale. I went searching and found the one that was on sale and ordered it.
If anyone is thinking of getting a new Kindle or have someone on your gift list who might be Kindle worthy, I think this one (affiliate link) is a good buy and once these are gone, and the new one is shipping, these will be history.
I mostly download books through the public library system – audible and electronic books. I rarely buy a book any more.
Vince said once the new Kindle arrives, he’ll see about changing the battery in the old one. Sometimes that goes well and sometimes it doesn’t.
I need to put the box in my sidebar again about books I’ve read and what I’m currently reading. I love it when you folks share good book recommendations with me.

I just bought a new 32G Kindle Oasis. I read constantly. I have read over 600 books on my old Kindle. Battery did not last long at all anymore. I found one at Best Buy at the same price as Amazon and they still had some in stock. The new one was not cheap but should last me many years as my old, outdated (technology wise) was going to be outdated quickly. I had my old one for about 7 years. Love the new one. Had to get a new cover because the shape has changed. I am a happy camper!

Love my new Kindle and also getting books on it from the library. Have you read American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins? It’s a real page turner. (but has some really gruesome spots as it’s concerning cartels)

Have not read it. I’ll check it out but I don’t do gruesome or scary so I may not be able to get through it but it never hurts to try.

You don’t need a Kindle to read Kindle books. I read them on my iPad with the Kindle app.

iPads are so expensive. Kindles are not and I take my Kindle in my knitting bag, out on the deck, most anywhere I go. I prefer to have the Kindle since I lose and drop things so often.

.. I have 2 different kindles which I try to keep charged as well as two Kindle Fires. I finally bought some long cords to charge them and I usually plug one of the Fires in by my bed for night time reading/video watching. If I drop it on the bed, I use the cord to reel it back in! I probably need to check on my older ones.
I still have Amazon prime (~$100/year) as well as Kindle Unlimited ($10/mo). I go in spurts in reading the unlimited stuff, but it is still worth it. I noticed that some authors are putting out shorter “books” so you get hooked on the series and then you have to wait for the 7th in the series. I put that book on the wait list and then eventually get a notice.
My library does let me download books, but they are only for a week so it was easier to just stay on the Prime with a free monthly book and the the unlimited books.

I have a Fire too but I’m not too crazy about it. Vince would download every free book or discounted book to our Kindle library. I tried setting up folders or something to keep the books separate but my books got totally lost in the library so I ended up starting my own account. I get books from the library and have them sent to my account. I do have another Paperwhite that I keep on our joint account for those books that are still in there that I haven’t read yet but it’s older than the one I’ve been using. I usually read at night, and then listen to audio books during the day while doing something else, unless I’m in the car or waiting somewhere and then I read the Kindle so I check the battery level each night when I turn it off and if it needs to be charged, I put it on the charger in the morning and it’s always charges pretty quickly. When the device is new, I can go two or three weeks without having to charge it but after four or five years, I’m having to charge it every few days.

I highly recommend Nicholas Spark’s new book “The Wish.” I hope like many of his books this one will be made into a movie!

The libraries aren’t showing that one yet so I’ll have to wait but I’ve added it to my wish list. Thanks!

I just finished listening to The Chaperone. Highly recommend! Touches on a lot of social issues beginning in the 1920’s and has a strong and determined female main character.

Thank you! I’ll see about that one too. I love book recommendations.

I also recently read “The Four Winds” by Kristen Hanna & American Dirt. Not my style ~ I normally avoid reading books with violence but both are so well written I liked that I couldn’t guess what was happening next or the endings. I do recommend both books with reservation because of the violance as good reads.

I got on the waiting list for American Dirt. I’ll see about The Four Winds. Thanks. I can always put them down if I don’t like the violence. The beauty of going through the library is that I didn’t have to buy them.

Have you ever read “The Holy Ghost Girl”? This is written by the step daughter of David Terrell who was /is the leader of the New Testament Holiness Church in Bangs. The one that has been in the news and even on 60 minutes. I would never have heard of it or read it except my son was a friend of her and her sister. It is an eye opener about how some of these religious communities get by. This one is not particularly liked around here. We love some of the people, but not him or his religious practices!
judy.blog@gmail.com says
I have not read it, nor did I know anything about that church. I will look for that book. Thanks.

I don’t get ebooks from my library, but there are thousands of books free on Kindle Unlimited. The authors are paid by the number of pages read (from unlimited funds) instead of bought books, and you borrow them for as long as you want. Since I read 300-500 books each year, it makes sense for me to do unlimited, because it comes out to pennies a book.

We don’t have Kindle Unlimited but we did before we were able to download books online.
