Vince went to Walmart . . not once, not twice, not three times . . but four times today. I can’t laugh too much because I went twice but both times were because he dragged me out, kicking and screaming all the way out the door! Not really but if I had thought that behavior would have helped, I might have tried it.
Trip #1:
I’m not sure why he stopped the first time. Probably because he was passing by and can’t help himself. He went through the garden center so I’m guessing he was looking for something in that side of the store. He saw the patio furniture, turned around and came home to get me. So thoughtful! Really .. it was thoughtful and I appreciate thoughtfulness but .. I’ve described for Vince the furniture I envision for the pergola and I think he was thinking if we get this that was on sale, he won’t have to buy anything else.
Trip #2:
I was with him. We got the table and four chairs. I tried to find the table on Walmart’s website but couldn’t. Tomorrow I’ll get info off the box .. wait, we took it all out of the box . . I’ll try to figure it out. It’s kinda neat. The table has a fire pit in the middle. I didn’t want a fire pit because honestly, how many times are we going to build a fire in the middle of our table but it might be fun to do something like hibachi outside. It has a “plate” that fits over the fire pit so if you want just a solid table, that’s what you can make it into.
The table and chairs came in three big boxes. We have an S-10 with a flat cover over the back. He also bought a porch swing for two people. That was in a big box. I couldn’t see any way he was going to get all that in the back of that little truck but he did. He ran back in to buy some straps because he had taken his out of the pickup when he and a friend went in the friend’s pickup/trailer to pick up the mower.
He came out with three rolls of the plastic landscape fencing that we use to keep rabbits out of the garden.
He got everything situated in the truck, got it all strapped down and we drove slowly home but when we got home, we only had two rolls of plastic landscape fencing.
He was fixing to go back to town because he still had not made it to the flea market. He drove slowly, retracing our path, trying to find the other roll of landscaping fabric. Didn’t find it.
Trip #3:
I wasn’t with him but it had to have been on the trip to the flea market.
Trip #4:
We were sitting in the house about 5:30 and he was telling me about the fertilizer and nozzles and all kinds of things he bought while at Walmart because they had marked all their summer garden type things down by about 60% today. I told him I would have bought more of the fertilizer for next year’s garden so . . back to Walmart we went.
I was over on a different row and saw another roll of the green landscape fabric. I picked it up and walked over to where he was.
Me: Vince, there’s one roll of this left. Do you want to buy it?
Vince: WHERE DID YOU FIND THAT?
Me: Just over on the next row.
I could tell he was shocked. He went and talked to the man at the register. The man had been there when we were there.
Here’s the rest of the story. When we were there earlier, Vince asked the man if there were any more rolls of that stuff and he told Vince everything was out. The man checked Vince out so he remembered that Vince bought all three rolls. Apparently the roll fell out in the parking lot, someone brought it back in and they put it back on the shelf so the man told Vince he knew he had already paid for it so Vince didn’t have to pay again.
How funny is that?

Thanks for the chuckle! Oh, Vince.

that was lucky that the man was still there.

I’d say I wouldn’t expect that kind of luck again anytime soon!! 🙂

Hi
thanks for making me smile. Oh Vince would hate it here in UK as we have a fuel shortage! Petrol pumps empty and if , that’s if they have a delivery there are up to 4 hours waiting in a very long queue. SO no popping out 2, 3, 4 times a day. Up side? our roads are much quieter and more money in the pocket! I’ve been lucky as the past 10 days driving an hybrid car. Uses electric for up to 40mph and then automatically switches to petrol. Around home I would be lucky to pass 40mph as there are so many speed restrictions. Returned it yesterday still with the tank as full as the day I got it. That felt good. Changing car in the next 2 months , and a automatic hybrid it will be.

People including me are so quick to bash Walmart (their new shopping app is a MESS!) but yours is the second make you feel good story I’ve heard in the last two days. My Mom orders her groceries online and drives the 10 miles to get them. When she put the milk in the refrigerator she noticed the out date was the very next day. She called her local Walmart, someone met her outside (she is disabled) with a new half gallon of milk and a $20 gift card!!!

After Chad worked there for about 11 years, I don’t think they’re nearly as bad as people make them out to be. They were always more than fair with him. He started out working part-time there during college and worked his way up. Yes, they hire part-time and it’s maybe to keep from giving benefits but if people knew how many large corporations treat employees, they’d be praising Walmart. Some lay off people every time there’s an opportunity, then hire temps to keep from paying benefits but yet these companies are always being praised for the things they do for employees.
Walmart has a store full of Chinese stuff. Try finding any large national chain that doesn’t. I always laugh when I hear people say they don’t buy things made in China. I think they aren’t paying attention. The installers told us my new GE near top of the line residential gas stove was made in China.
The CEO and upper folks get huge bonuses – so does everyone at those levels with other corporations.
Walmart moved into locations and mom and pop stores closed. That kind of stuff has happened since the beginning of time. If I’ve been shopping at George Theriot’s grocery store, Walmart came to town . . no one made me stop going to George Theriot’s. I did that on my own . . as did most everyone else because of a better/larger selection and better prices. That’s one of the reasons I am in favor of school vouchers. Let parents send their kids to the best schools and let the bad schools dry up and close.
People love to hate Walmart but they’re free to shop anywhere they like.
