First step done! The electrician came this morning and added the plug for the new stove.
This seems to be the new normal. We call the elctrician and say “We need to have a 110 plug added for a new stove.” They send their guy out here. He gets here. He needs to go to the supply house to get a breaker. Vince said “I have a breaker”. He gets the wires done and he said “I have to go get the receptacle.” Vince said “I have a receptacle”. He uses our outlet, then he says “I have to go buy a plate cover”. Vince said “I have a plate cover”. I’m hoping that had he gone to buy the breaker, he would also have picked up the receptacle and cover and not had to make multiple trips since he was on the clock the entire time.
The guy told Vince that the box you put in the wall that clamps into the drywall (the box that holds the receptacle), they can’t get those from their supplier. He bought one at the hardware store and they only had four left and were having a hard time getting more.
Things are getting crazier by the minute. I would hate to be needing to have a big job done these days. Thank goodness cross stitch supplies are fairly easy to get . . too easy some (husband) might say! 🙂

So don’t you think we women would have bought the other four especially if we were in the electric buisness?lol

No. I think most of us would have brought two . . just in case. I wonder how they would feel if the wife started to cook, got the table set and said “Oh, I need to run to the store and buy a chicken to fry!” Got back and said “Oops, need to go get potatoes for mashed potatoes.” And finally, “We need stuff to make salad . . back to the store!”
What do they do for people who live like we did out in Texas.
It’s the idea that we would have been paying him while he was running to the store and back at least once when all he had to do was come prepared. The last time they were here, I asked if they had a screw for a plate cover because we had one missing. He said “Not on my truck but I can run get one.” No, thanks!

Ridiculous practices. I’d be calling in to speak to the manager or owner but then, I am a poor practitioner of ‘bite my tongue’.

That’s kinda what I thought but at least they came when we called and that’s more than a lot of “service” companies do these days. Hopefully we won’t need them any more for a while.

I hear ya. These are dicey times!

It’s great that Vince already had everything he needed. It saved time and money! You would think they would automatically bring the standard things needed to put in plug, though.

That’s what I thought – especially since there was ONE thing he needed to do and we told them ahead of time what it was – add a 110 plug beind the stove for a gas stove.

Makes me think of the “You had ONE job” memes, but I’m not laughing. That seems like pretty questionable practices to me.
Okay, maybe they don’t have a stockpile, but I would think they would pick up what they’re obviously going to need on their own time.

Wow! I can’t believe that the electrician didn’t have those basic supplies on hand. So crazy! Makes me wonder if he was trying to increase the job cost by adding the extra time involved in going to get the supplies. He definitely should have had the parts that he would need for what he knew he was coming out to your house to do!
judy.blog@gmail.com says
That’s what I thought but it seems to be the way a lot of service people do things these days. Maybe it’s so hard to get parts, they want to be sure what they need before they go out and get them but no matter, this was a simple – one thing job.

Tell Vince that I need: more fabric, Coke, and chocolate!

Vince really should have hired himself out as a shopper. Now that most stores deliver, he may not be nearly so much in demand but I sure like having him around.

My way of thinking – when you know what job you are going to – you bring all the basic supplies with you. Now granted, you might run into an issue that would necessitate a different type of something…..but you would have all the basic things….but we found in the past 2 years that is not the case any more. And I am not sure if it is a generational thing – or if it is a financial thing – or what. But we also know what times of day NOT to go to the Home Depot (there is not a lot of selection around here) because that it when all the contractors etc go there to buy things they need and to socialize!

Exactly. I just can’t get over that it’s happening with several different companies we’ve used. Like you said, there can be something you weren’t expecting but if you’re paying me by the hour and I come to your house to cut your hair, then have to leave to go get shampoo, and leave to go get scissors — that just isn’t right.
