As I started writing this, I was going to say “We were so busy yesterday” but when I started thinking about what all we did . . we were not busy but the day just slipped away! My mom used to say about my grandma “She thinks she’s so busy and she isn’t accomplishing anything!” I’m there! That’s me exactly. Even writing about every thing I did . . it doesn’t seem like much.
Remember after Addie’s game how tired we were? I was writing back and forth with Denise last night and it was not even 10 p.m. Vince went downstairs about 9 to watch TV, was down there maybe 5 minutes and said “I can’t stay awake. I’m going to bed.” About 10, I went downstairs with the iPad and figured I’d finish writing to Denise but couldn’t hold my eyes open so I went to bed too. I woke up Sunday morning about 5 and thought . . great! I got a good night’s sleep. Got a load of laundry done, wrote a blog post and told Vince . . I’m going back to bed for a while. I woke up and thought . . I hope I haven’t slept past 8 a.m. It was 10:45. I basically slept 12 hours from the time I went to bed to the time I really got up so that didn’t leave a lot of time to do anything!
I did cut okra and pick tomatoes and . . I’m not complaining . . but I came in and cut it all up and it filled four trays for the freeze dryer. The current load should finish about 6 a.m. and hopefully by mid-afternoon it will be defrosted and I’ll start it again. Vince can hear the freeze dryer from the downstairs living room where the TV is and he kinda groaned and said “I’m never going to stop hearing the freeze dryer.” I almost said . . you’ll be thankful in about March when you still have home grown produce but considering the only thing I’m putting up is okra and tomatoes (separately), he may be sick of okra and tomatoes way before March.
I have put up eggplant, bell peppers and jalapeno peppers from the garden but way more okra and tomatoes than anything else. Who would ever have though those little raised beds would produce so much? I think Vince expected to put a little work and money into building them and it would keep me occupied and from asking him to do something else but he’s as surprised as I am with how much they’ve produced. Almost every day, he says “Think how much stuff we would have grown if we could have had this kind of garden in Texas.” No .. I don’t want to think about it! I would be too sad that we moved away from the big garden with a well.
Additions:
The only thing I ordered was DMC for the Honest Abe project.
Cooking:
Obviously not breakfast because I slept through that!
For our meal, I made the oven BBQ chicken, fried eggplant and baked beans. The chicken was really on the menu for today and we were supposed to have leftover brisket yesterday but we had it two days in a row already so I needed to skip it. Today we’re having salmon and tomorrow we’ll have brisket, then the chicken again . . then the week will be half over and I will only have cooked twice! 🙂
I did make two more loaves of bread.
We’ve been wanting to have the neighbors over for dinner and I keep thinking about what to fix. I’m not a fancy cook. We eat plain Jane meals but I wanted something really good – not weird, not too spicy. Vince loved the chicken and he said “Fix this when we invite the neighbors over. It’s really good!” OK . . great make ahead meal!
Videos I Watched:
We got a new Master Gardener lesson today. I find those things so boring. The instructor talks. It’s not even a video – just a voice recording. I’ll get through it but I was surely expecting more.
Stitching:
Nothing!
Plans for Today:
I’m cooking salmon, baked potatoes, peas and okra for our meal. Those area all quick. Dare I say . . . I hope to stitch?
I don’t think there’s anything I have to get done other than my cleaning chores this morning but you can bet something will come up.
