In November, 2020 when the cross stitch bug hit me, I also bought a couple of punch needle kits and a couple of punch needle patterns. After looking at the Punch Needle & Primitive Stitcher magazine yesterday, I’m wanting to start doing punch needle. I watched a few videos and some use hoops but many use the frames that turn because most people seem to punch best in one direction and I can see that.
I started looking at punch needle frames and . . they wouldn’t break the bank but bringing one more thing into this house might have me camping out with the folks down under the bridge and they really don’t look very inviting. How I miss the days of packages arriving while Vince was at work.
I should have taken a picture . . Tuesday, after no mail on Monday, I knew I had packages coming. Several! 123 Stitch does not combine packages and if I place three $15 orders in one day, it’s probably going to arrive in 8 packages because anything they don’t have, they ship it later. One skein of floss, one piece of linen . . whatever is coming late gets its own package.
I saw the mail carrier go by. Vince was downstairs so I quietly unlocked the front door, and oh, my goodness. It looked like the mail carrier had barfed packages on the porch. No rubberband. No bundles . . 17 packages spread out over the side of the porch. I hurriedly began gathering them up. Most of mine went on Addie’s bed, with the bedroom door closed! I think three of the packages were for Vince so I put his three in his chair, put two in my chair so it wouldn’t look like I didn’t get anything. That would be way too suspect!
Anyway, I remembered that I had a frame for rug hooking.
The frame I was looking at has a 9 x 12 opening and this one has a 12 x 13 so it isn’t much bigger. Then I was thinking it would be kind of a waste of the punch needle fabric to use something so big but I can cut the punch needle fabric to the size I need, then sew other fabric around it (like a border) and attach the other fabric to the frame and . . done. We know I have plenty of fabric!
This one even has the grime guards or arm protectors and it rotates 360 so I think it will work just fine.
Money saved and one less thing added to this house!

You are a smart woman!

The main thing you want is extremely tight fabric. If it gets loose it won’t work. You can do it. Just go slow to start and try to do something simple to begin with.

Back in February, you mentioned buying a punch kit for Vince to try. Just sayin.

He never tried it but he still has it.

I had to laugh because, like you, I have no privacy any more. Even worse, I don’t drive any more because of the pain medication I take so I never go anywhere alone…I have to remind myself that I’m blessed to have him (we just celebrated 50 years!) but I sure get my hackles up when he makes comments! There ought to be a law against that after a certain age!
