I ended up taking the spatulas off the bottom shelf. They were just too close to the floor for my comfort.
I use a lot of these BIG containers of herbs/spices and they’re way up on the top shelf in the spice cabinet. I have to use the step stool to reach them so I was able to fit the 10 that I use the most on that bottom shelf. It’s black pepper, garlic powder, minced onion, onion powder, red pepper, oregano, anise seeds, dill seeds, steak dust and one more I’m not remembering.
Bending down to get them is a pain but not as bad as having to climb up on that folding ladder thing.

Set it on a little stool. Then you won’t have to bend

Looking at the skinny legs, could you get Vince to cut you four pieces of pvc pipe that would work like risers? I have seen it used for conference tables at retreats. They slip the pipe over the legs as an extension.

Just a thought, use a heavy duty grabber. Finally was able to convince my Mom to use hers since she took a fall broke her pelvic bone, cracked 3 ribs & has numerous hairline fractures in her right hip.

I have one but usually, especially in the spice cabinet, there’s always something in front of what I need and it’s easier to climb up and move things around to find what I need.

Have you thought about having Vince put a shelf up so you don’t have to bend down, and everything stays clean & out of the way? It would be an easy project, and would save your back, too.

Could you hang the handle on a hook, placed up higher so you would not have to bend at all? Or would that make the self stick out? Not hang close to your cabinet.

You should check out Side of cabinet ideas on Pinterest. I bet you could get Vince to build you something that would work!
Judy Laquidara says
I will do it. Thanks!

I am short, as you may remember, Judy. There are things on my second shelves I cannot reach. I have been “forbidden” to get on even a step stool. One son is so afraid of my falling, breaking a hip and beginning the death journey that his MIL took. And it really didn’t take her very long. I’ve done a few things all of them would rather I didn’t! If I really need something at 10AM, what am I to do, they can’t leave work. Just be careful!!

I know. I think about it every time I get on my little folding step stool. Mine was kinda slippery on the wood floor and a couple of times, I almost crashed so I glued some of the grippy stuff to the feet so now it doesn’t slip but I know I could still fall. And your son is right, a broken hip seems to be the beginning of the end for quite a few older folks.
