Chad, Nicole and Addie left Missouri early Friday afternoon, spent the night in Arkansas and drove on to southwest Louisiana yesterday. It’s been a super quick trip. They went straight to Sulphur, LA to buy shrimp, then to my uncle’s, where they stayed last night and will stay tonight. Chad said he hopes to be on the road by 5 a.m. tomorrow.
The trip was to get my grandpa’s 1959 Chevy pickup.
My uncle has kept it in tip top shape and he didn’t want to go through another hurricane season with it but it just hasn’t worked out for Chad to get it til now.
It’s all hooked up to the pickup and ready to make the trip to Missouri. My guess is this will be the first time the truck has been to MO. Heck, it probably never left Sabine Parish, LA til my uncle bought it from my grandpa, I think Chad said in 1980.
Chad was reading on MO paperwork that a vehicle cannot be donated two consecutive times so he and Nicole or he and my uncle were talking about it. I guess Nicole or one of them said “How will we give it to Addie when Chad’s too old to keep it?” Chad said “I guess I can sell it to her for $1.” Addie piped in . . “I have $1. I’ll just buy it now!” 🙂
Chad has been working – cleaning, moving things around, getting rid of stuff to make room for it and their SUV in his garage. My uncle made him promise he’d always keep it in a garage. I’m so glad it’s been in the family all these years, that my uncle entrusted it to Chad and that Chad loves it and will take good care of it.
Chad is so happy to have that pickup. I’ll be so happy when they get back here safely with it!

AMAZING!!!!!! A fabulous truck and a fabulous gift with fabulous memories. I’m so excited for Chad (and Addie). Can your Uncle gift it straight to Addy? (curious).

I don’t know that a 9 year old could register a vehicle and get insurance.

I know it’s a stab in the dark. My motto is “you never get what you don’t ask for”. I was thinking her parents would insure it.

OMG, my dad had one like it! Is this one 4WD? Dad’s was.
Judy Laquidara says
I’d be surprised if it’s 4WD. There was no reason for my grandpa to have that there – no snow or mud to drive through.

Fabulous!
I used to drive one like that but the floorboards were rusted through in places and the passenger door didn’t always latch properly!
As a teenager it was a great ride!
