I understand that it isn’t right for everyone but I love having a plan. I need a plan. If I have something telling me what I should be doing every minute of every day, I function so much better than being left to my own ways. Here’s an example: I was so excited last night when I made the decision to work on Let Love Reign. This morning Teresa Kogut sent the three new pieces out to Patreon members and within minutes, I had decided instead of Let Love Reign, I was going to do one of those. I started changing this post and then said NO! I’m doing Let Love Reign.
Having a plan for August was the best thing I’ve done in a long time and I’m going to continue doing it until it no longer feels right.
This was my August plan:
I found that I didn’t really like having one project to work on for so many hours and then another for so many hours each day. I didn’t mind working on one thing on weekdays and one thing on weekends. This month I’m going to try to set daily goals and once a goal is reached for that project for that day, I’ll go to my secondary project (which will be Let Love Reign).
Some of y’all are monogamous stitchers. I’ve always jumped from project to project but I fear, I’m becoming a monogamous stitcher. I’m not so sure how that would work for me but I have enjoyed concentrating mostly on one project. We’ll see.
Rooster – I finished that.
Thy Love Divine – I worked on it a couple of weekends but wanted to concentrate on getting A Changed World Done.
Away We Ride – I worked on it only the first weekend.
For September, we have the Show Stopper Challenge with the Cross Stitch Camp group and on Instagram, there’s a big thing called September Sampler where everyone works on a sampler.
There are so many show stopper projects I’d love to work on but most of them are like year long projects. Not so sure I want to start that until I get a few more things finished.
There are probably at least 75 samplers I’d like to stitch but I couldn’t decide on anything.
Last night I pulled three sampler charts out of my bin, brought them upstairs and thought about them. I’ve made a decision. I will work on Let Love Reign by Teresa Kogut. This is one that was released for her Patreon members in May. This will be a show stopper for me and a sampler.
I had three or four pieces of fabric pulled and in the bag with the chart. I’ll pull the floss and then decide on fabric. It’s all DMC except for two Weeks Dye Works colors, which I’m sure I have.
I’m excited to be working on this one.
Here’s my plan for September:
In my head, this is how September will work. I’ll set goals for each day. Today my goal is to finish the curvy row under the houses and stitch two rows of text (A Changed World). If I meet those goals, I can begin stitching on Let Love Reign.
The goal for Thursday I think on A Changed World is to stitch two more rows of text. If I get that done early, I can go ahead and work on Friday’s goal and then have all day Friday to work on Let Love Reign or I can start on Let Love Reign as soon as I finish the Thursday A Changed World goals.
I will also set goals for Away We Ride on weekends so I can get some Let Love Reign stitching time on weekends too.
We’ll see how it goes but I’m so excited to start Let Love Reign that I almost got up in the middle of the night and started stitching so hopefully that excitement will keep me stitching more and wasting less time watching floss tube and ordering new stuff.

I like having a plan, too. For me it consists of lists that I keep in a quilting planner, divided into current projects, works in progress and “bucket list” projects. It reminds me of my priorities and gives me goals and projects to look forward to starting/continuing/finishing. I never was a monogamous cross-stitcher and I’m not a monogamous quilter. Finishes are important but they’re not the only thing.

It’s amazing that being accountable, even if only to myself and my lists, makes me more productive. I doubt I will ever be a truly monogamous stitcher but I dislike having to put away one project bag – pack everything in it and put it away, load the frame with a new project even though it takes the turn of one little lever. Maybe lazy is a better word than monogamous!

I know, you need two or three stands 😉

I’ve been alternating between three projects, but mostly Changed World and Newcastle Bouquet. My only rule is odd days = CW, even days = NB. The third project, “She Set her sails” is a small one for a pillow, that’s for when I need a change up. Now I’m eyeing the “Let Love Reign”, so pretty, I really like the bouquet on the lower half. I’m slowly wondering away from monogamy lol.

It is nice to have a plan and tweek it to meet your needs.
