Last night I was up very late and when I went to bed, the only thing Vince said was “sleeping down here isn’t so bad!” Thank you!!
The a/c isn’t fixed but it’s working for now. There’s a hole in the coil but we won’t know til tomorrow how long it will take to get the part. Maybe November or December. The “fix” isn’t going to last that long. I told Vince we may need to buy an RV as a backup since it takes so long to get parts for everything these days.
After lunch I asked Vince “Where are you going to sleep tonight?” and he said “Wherever you sleep!” which is his way of saying sleeping in the basement is fine because he knows I’m sleeping wherever he sleeps. It makes no sense to me to keep the a/c set on 69 at night so we can sleep cool, when setting the thermostat to 76 will keep the basement bedroom cooler than the master bedroom when the thermostat is at 69. Last night the temp in the house stayed 80 all night and by 8 a.m., it was up to 82 inside. There’s no sense in having the a/c work to keep the house 11 degrees colder than outside, when just 6 degrees colder maybe less, is a good sleeping temp in the basement.
In the winter, the master bedroom will be much easier to keep warm so we’ll have a winter bedroom and a summer bedroom . . if it’s up to me. My guess is that Vince will sleep downstairs a few nights and then go back to sleeping upstairs.
It’s so nice for me if we sleep downstairs because I stay downstairs almost all the time except when I’m cooking. Being able to turn everything off in the sewing room, walk across the hall and go to bed . . nice! Heck, I may move all my shower stuff downstairs.
One thing I need is better curtains or shades on the sewing room windows. The ones now are just sheers on spring rods and Boots keeps managing to pull them down. It makes me nervous being in the sewing room at night. Any suggestions as to what would be cat proof, easy to open and close. Two windows have sewing machines in front of them and one has a sofa so I can’t easily reach them. I think I saw remote control blinds . . maybe I’m dreaming. I need something I can raise during the day or, when I’m not in here at night so Boots doesn’t destroy them but I don’t need anything with cords or strings that he can chew or get tangled up in. Thanks if you have any ideas.

Hi Judy
My friend had the same problem with her manic cat! She opted for tilt and shade wooden shutters. Worked a treat. Good luck

I love wooden shutters but Boots chews on things like that.

I bought black out curtains and Drapery rods from Amazon. They have an excellent selection and good prices. Blackout curtains really help keep the heat out in the summer and the warmth in during the winter.
Judy Laquidara says
Thanks. I keep them open during the day and it’s hard for me to reach them. I’m not concerned with heat, mostly concerned about my fear of looking up and seeing someone outside. I will check them out though.
These sheers that I have not, I can reach them with long BBQ tongs to open and close them. Do you think I could do the same thing with the blackout curtains?
Deb says
Yes, that’s what I open & close my blackout drapes with – tongs. Plus the added bonus of sleeping in a dark bedroom and it stays warmer in winter, too. Bought ours at “Newtown” through Amazon. Great quality.

Thanks!

Not the right place to ask this question, but I know you do research before you buy. what kind of camp stove do you use for outside that can accommodate canners?
Is it also suitable for other cooking you might do in a power outage?
Thank you.
Judy Laquidara says
I sent you an email but it’s the Camp Chef stove and it definitely works great for cooking during a power outage, as well as canning even using the big All American canner that holds 14 quarts.

My daughter has remote controlled blinds – and they are even the ones that can be lowered from top down, or raised from bottom up….
Teri says
They do have remote control blinds. They are very nice….

I know this would be a bit much unless you’re ready to replace windows. But my daughter has some windows where the blinds are actually between two panes of glass.
Judy Laquidara says
We’ve had those before in doors and I don’t think that’s what we want.
Linda B says
I would think so.

Roman shades are good and you could get a pretty holder to hold the cord on while they are up and when they are down you can make sure the cord will fit on that as well.
