I got a new cell phone in April. Vince feels like we should get a new phone every 10 years, whether we need it or not. My phone was probably three years old but I can’t remember why I got a new phone – I think because sometimes my phone wouldn’t ring. It would sound like it was ringing to those who called but it wasn’t ringing on my end. Vince got tired of calling me when he was out and me not answering the phone because it wasn’t ringing and didn’t show a missed call. So, we picked out a new phone and ordered it. We never buy expensive phones. A $150 phone is a cheap phone these days – crazy but to get one that has a decent camera and will do all the things I need it to do, that’s about the least we can pay. Vince ordered a case before the phone ever arrived and he put it on the phone before I ever used it.
I hadn’t had the new phone but maybe a month when we went to look at mattresses. I had it in my lap in the car, stood up and it fell onto the parking lot and even with the screen protector, the screen broke. The phone kept working . . til I dropped it again a couple of weeks ago. I was driving and had stuck the phone in my purse in the passenger seat but apparently it was barely in my purse so when I picked up my purse and slung it over my arm, the phone went flying. Since then, it’s hardly worked. There’s an echo that will drive others crazy when trying to talk to me on the phone.
Today I asked Vince if he would call Consumer Cellular and see what they say. Broken screen, no protection plan . . too bad for you so we ordered another new phone but this time, we added the $5/month for the protection plan.
I have had hand held cell phones for at least 25 years. I’ve probably always dropped them but I’ve never cracked a screen til now. I have a feeling if it happens again, I’ll be without a phone so I must be more careful.
I’d like to say that I’m going to put it in my purse and keep the purse zipped but, with Vince driving, I always take my phone and rarely take my purse. Whatever I figure out . . I have to do better.

I use the Otter Box phone case. I have dropped it often and never had a problem. I don’t trust anything but those.

They only make one Otter Box for the phone I ordered and it doesn’t have glass protection so even if he was willing to order that one, I wouldn’t have wanted it.

I’ve always used the Lifeproof cases, although I think my last one was a different brand. (I think they didn’t have the Lifeproof brand for the version of phone I bought.) It makes the phone a bit bulkier, but I dropped my phone on the edge of my granite raised-hearth and it was perfectly fine. It paid for itself that day!

Get a liquid cell phone glass protector. I was like you, scratching and breaking them left and right. I put the liquid one on 18 months ago and not a scratch.
Judy Laquidara says
Never heard of it but I’ll check it out. Thanks.

That’s no coincidence. Somehow the algorithms can search what is on the screen, then suggest similar products/websites to you.
I have an additional glass screen protector added to the glass of my phone. It cracked when dropped, but protects the phone screen as advertised.

I’ve always had glass protectors that cracked (tablets and phones) but I think the last case/protector Vince got was cheap so I’m not accepting all the blame for a cracked screen . . though it doesn’t really matter whose fault it was. Protector or not, I shouldn’t be dropping phones. The problem that actually caused me to have to get a new phone is that there’s some kind of gizmo that stops feedback so the other person on the phone’s voice doesn’t come through the speaker and dropping the phone can damage that and it was damaged and feedback was terrible when trying to talk on the phone. I could have kept using it with the cracked screen (and had been for several months).
