The weekends go by so quickly. The only different from a weekend and weekday around here is that, since I came up with a monthly stitching plan, I work on different things on the weekend from during the week. How’s that for living the retirement lifestyle? 🙂
The weekend has ended and I will put Thy Love Divine away without much work having been done on it. I was supposed to work on it three hours Saturday and three hours Sunday. I didn’t get three hours of stitching in either day but that’s how life goes sometimes.
Additions:
There was an addition. My friend, Tracy, had told me recently that she was using a Lowery stand and she thought that might work for me.
I think it might because it’s flat and it should fit right under my recliner. I’m anxious to try it out. I don’t mind stitching in hand but if I’m using a frame and not holding something in my hand, I can stitch with both hands (one under and one on top) and that goes faster and makes my right hand not have to do all the work. It’s good for my left hand to have to think sometimes! : )
So, I ordered that and will see how it works.
Cooking:
Oh, my goodness . . I cooked! I started out early making the ribs that we will eat today. I like to cook beef short ribs ahead so the grease can harden in the fridge overnight and I can scrape it away.
Here’s the pot going into the oven.
Here’s after a slow roast for several hours. I’ll take it out of the fridge soon, scoop off the grease, put it back in the oven for a couple of hours before we eat. Yum . . so looking forward to this.
For yesterday’s meal, I made salmon. I take the hot plate (an induction plate from Aldi) outside, I heat butter til it’s about to smoke, put the salmon in which has salt, pepper and Cajun Redhead Seasoning, and sear the salmon til it’s not blackened but getting dark, remove the salmon, add chopped garlic, juice from one or two lemons, simmer that down, then add about 1/4 cup of maple syrup, put the fish back in and let it cook on very low for a few minutes. That is delicious!
Then I made a strange little cake. I’ll share that recipe later today.
Videos I Watched:
I watched a couple of Vonna Pfeiffer’s videos. She has some really good ones. I haven’t seen them all but they don’t seem so much like a commercial for people who are sending her stuff. That gets kinda old to me. I want to see what people are doing!
Stitching:
I only worked on Thy Love Divine and, as I said . . not much. Here’s where I left off Saturday night.
Here’s where I am now.
I put it away last night and will work on it next weekend.
Plans for Today:
First, there’s a freeze dryer full of okra and eggplant so I need to get that out, get it vacuum sealed, get the oil changed and be ready for the next load of something . . whenever that happens.
I’m going to work on the rooster first because it has to be done by the end of the month. I’ll try to spend three hours on it. Having dinner mostly already done helps. If I’m happy with the progress, after three hours, I’ll switch over to A Changed World.
I have a mountain of clothes that need to be folded and put away, so I need to get that done this morning . . earlier rather than later . . before someone comes over and finds every piece of clothing we own on the sofa.

I hope you like the stand as much as I do. It is so much easier to swing out of the way when getting up from my chair. I also appreciate that I can move the hoop left and right without moving the base, it just slides on the horizontal arm. This in turn makes using the magnifier easier, as I can keep the stitching area in the “sweet spot” without moving the magnifier base. I use a 10″ non slip hoop by Dritz, because it has a rectangular area around the tightening screw that fits perfectly in the stands clamp.
Judy Laquidara says
OK. I’m off to find a 10″ non slip hoop by Dritz. Tracy . . Vince is going to put you on that list with Denise if you keep this up! 🙂

I once tried to help someone organize their home better. I mentioned that each load of clothes should be folded straight from the dryer, not dumped on the couch. She looked at me, then said that growing up, their couch Always had dry clothes on it, waiting to be folded. I know that it takes about 15min to fold a large load of baby clothes, helped with quadruplets once. Folding clothes for an hour is exhausting!
Judy Laquidara says
I don’t mind because I can sit on the sofa and fold them vs. standing up in the laundry room. I usually dump them on the sofa, then promptly fold them because I prefer to fold them while they’re warm but this weekend was crazy busy. I did good to get them washed and transferred to the dryer.

I’ve been thinking of getting a stand so I’ll be watching to see how you like this one. I like being able to turn over the frame to get to the back to bury stitches and check for issues. I’ve seen some reviews on various stands that bring up issues so I’m just holding off for now.
Judy Laquidara says
I can easily do that with my Rolaframe/stand but the wooden legs have “feet” and I can’t fit it under the recliner in the living room. In the sewing room, I have a swivel recliner so I can position the Rolaframe stand, then rotat the recliner and it works well but I desperately need a frame that will work with a stationery recliner.
I’m assuming that to flip your work, you’d have to loosen the toggle type thing but maybe if Tracy sees this, she’ll confirm.
Tracy says
Yes, it’s very easy to flip the hoop over, just a slight turn of the L shaped bolt to loosen it and you can see the backside. Likewise, to move the frame away or towards you is easy as well.

Thank you!

Thanks for the reply! I ordered one…lol. Can’t wait to get it!!

I love my lowery frame! I used to stitch in hand but with age holding something in my hand begins to hurt way too soon now. Plus I really like two handed stitching. It took me a bit to get used to it, but now I love it. I have tile floors so I put felt pads on the bottom it glides across my floor. I hope you love yours as much as I love mine.
Judy Laquidara says
Thank you! I’m pretty sure this is just what I’ve been hoping for. Great idea about the felt pads on the floor. I’ll for sure do that if I end up using it on the wood floors.

I’m splitting my creative time right now between quilting and cross stitching. Never seem to have enough time to do as much of either one as I’d like. That Lowery stand is intriguing because it sounds like it might help this “in the hand” stitcher to stitch faster! I’m going to check it out.
Judy Laquidara says
I’m pretty anxious for it to get here! I think it’s going to be just what I’ve been wanting.

I love my Lowery stand but am curious about the hoop twas mentioned. I use my qsnap with mine. I also use a magnifier light and everything works together.
Andrea says
I love my lowery stand. I use qsnaps and rolaframes with mine.
Judy Laquidara says
That’s nice to know. I have both of those and will be happy to be able to use them.
