Happy Friday, the 13th. I’m not superstitious but . . Vince and I always joke about Friday, the 13th. Last night, he said “Should we stay home all day tomorrow?” I said “After you go get fish for lunch!” He’s been wanting fish. I won’t go out and eat in a restaurant but we can go to the drive-thru, pick it up, bring it home, stick the fries in the air fryer and it’s as delicious as ever. Otherwise, I’m sure we’ll be home for the next week or month . . depending on what’s happening with Covid. Now he has me wanting fish!
I have not been sleeping. That just never happens to me but I’m so scared after that guy showed up a second time. Last night I went to bed way early for me. I can remember as a kid, I was always afraid of the dark and if I went to sleep before my parents went to bed, I was fine. I knew nothing would happen as long as they were awake. I guess last night I figured if I went to bed before Vince went to sleep, maybe I’d go to sleep. I did but I woke up at about 11:30 and was still tossing and turning, dozing off a little when it got to be 2 a.m. I must have fallen asleep, then someone turned around in our driveway at 3 a.m. and that made an alarm go off. I think I dozed off a few times but never fell completely to sleep.
Another thing . . when I was sick and coughing so much, for probably three weeks, I slept in the basement. It’s cooler down there, I ran a vaporizer and Vince couldn’t hear me coughing so at least he got some sleep. When I moved back upstairs, he’s been sleeping with a pillow in the middle of the bed. He said “I like hugging it.” I told him I’d buy him a Curious George stuffed animal! We have a queen size bed. Put Vince, me and a pillow between us and I didn’t have any room. I asked him yesterday “Do you HAVE to sleep with that pillow?” That’s when he told me he liked hugging the pillow. Hmm . . hug your wife! 🙂
Last night, we didn’t have the pillow in the bed and I did sleep better but it was kinda storming the better part of the night and I figured the bad guy probably wouldn’t get out in the rain. Don’t tell me any differently. Ignorance is bliss!
Additions:
It isn’t like I buy something every day. I will go for weeks without ordering anything and then Denise will email me about something and it’s like once I buy one thing, I can’t stop. Yesterday Denise and I discussed whether we should give Vince our credit cards for safe keeping – just take the darned things away from us. We decided that was not a good idea and anyway . . who’s the biggest shopper of them all? Vince!
The only thing I ordered and it really isn’t an order . . kinda . . but I had told the Hollis Hands Create lady that I would let her know which charts I want from the Needlework Expo coming up. These are the ones I asked her to get for me:
Honest Abe (or maybe The Lincoln Sampler) – Twin Peak Primitives
Gather With Joy – The Blue Flower
Secret Garden – Twin Peak Primitives
Holy Night at Husby Abby – Twin Peak Primitives
Cooking:
This is where I’m spending so much time. The first thing I did was make the Cowboy Candy (candied jalapeno peppers). I had planned on fixing beef stew (from the freezer) for dinner. Early in the day Vince mentioned getting fried fish but then the building came early and by the time they were done with that, it was too late to get fried fish and eat greasy food. I mentioned the beef stew which didn’t get a very good response. I remembered I had crab meat in the fridge so I made crab cakes.
Thank goodness for the pea salad that was left over. We also had fresh tomatoes and cucumbers.
The freeze dryer was finished with the okra so I put that all in jars and sealed it. 5 quarts and 3 pints of freeze dried okra. I had also freeze dried one sliced eggplant just to try something so . . I tried it. Vince loves Caponata so I tried rehydrating sliced eggplant, and then continuing to make the caponata. He loved it. Yay! One pint jar makes enough for one meal so that will work. I think I have 8 eggplants on the counter now – probably more than I can do in one load in the freeze dryer so I’ll start that soon.
It doesn’t sound like a lot of cooking but it’s the cleaning up after cooking and especially after canning those peppers. Well . . I guess it really isn’t. I’m just wanting to sit in my chair and cross stitch all day.
Videos I Watched:
The only video I watched was Lori Holt’s newest one. True Confession Time: There were several linens she talked about that I tried to find. I would have bought them if I found them but someone like Lori Holt mentions a color/brand of linen . . it’s gone . . off the face of the earth! I don’t need any linen anyway. I just want all the colors! 🙂
Stitching:
There was precious little stitching yesterday. Hardly any! I did get back to the Rooster Alphabet.
I worked on his tail just a little. Here’s where I left off last time so you can see how little I got done.
Plans For Today:
As mentioned earlier, get the eggplant in the freeze dryer.
I think today is a good day for cereal for breakfast and fish pickup from the restaurant for dinner.
I will work on the Rooster Alphabet. I would love to get the letters R – V stitched, the rooster’s tail completed and, probably way overly optimistic, but maybe get his head done too.
The arrival of the building took up a lot of time yesterday. After the delivery people left, Vince and I hung around out there, talking about where he would put stuff, what plants we could plant around the foundation, then I spent an hour watering the garden and pulling weeds, not to mention pulling those darned bag worms off everything.
OK .. enough . . I hope tomorrow’s report will show lots of cross stitching progress.
