I so rarely think about making pea salad but I love it. Tonight we were having leftover spaghetti and meatballs – definitely not my favorite meal. I kept thinking . . what can I fix quickly that I will like. I thought about pea salad! We have peas in the freezer so I stirred up a little mayo, yogurt, apple cider vinegar, chopped some onion into tiny little pieces, sliced some celery, stirred that all together with defrosted peas. I was going to add chopped pieces of cheddar cheese but found Goat’s Milk Cheddar in the fridge and used that instead.
I cooked some bacon and after the salad was all mixed together, I put it into bowls, added the crumbled bacon and sunflower seeds.
It was yummy! Perfect for a hot day. I think I remember mom putting boiled egg in it but I can’t remember for sure. I guess you can put anything in it that you want.
I didn’t even take a picture . . I was hungry by the time dinner was served. I did eat just a bit of pasta with a meatball. No red sauce except what I couldn’t scrape off my meatball.
I hope I remember to make pea salad more often. Do y’all put anything in yours besides what I added?

I use low salt ham instead of bacon. Otherwise pretty similar.

That’s a good idea. Thanks!

I’ve never made pea salad…never even thought about it, truth be told. I always have some at salad bars that offer it, but never thought to make my own. Sounds like a plan!! 🙂

I usually add a hardboiled egg along with what you used. We like the egg and cheese grated using the finest grate. And always refrigerated in a glass dish so he gets really cold.

I’ve never ever heard of pea salad….sounds yummy

We also add pasta. Don’t remember what variety.

Not about the pea salad but I recently saw something you might like. They are gardening sleeves called Farmers Defense- lot of pretty patterns and only about $23 a pair. Might be helpful since you are sensitive to the tomatoes.

Pea Salad Weather here….
In a pinch for a last minute pot luck I have grabbed pea salad from the deli and that fake crab salad and put them together…. Some deli fake crab salads are better then others but this worked out real well.

Yours sounds delish!
My quick and easy, I usually have on hand…1/3 cup sour cream, 2 Tbs light mayo, 1 Tbs splenda, 2 Tbs sweet pickle relish, 1/3 cup chopped cheddar cheese. Season to taste with onion powder, garlic powder, black pepper, and salt. Stir together. Drain 1 can of sweet peas. Add peas to other ingredients. Stir. Chill before serving.
With Pea Salad, the good thing is you can add what you like and leave out what you don’t…and it’s so tasty!

I mix 2 cans of canned peas, 2 boiled eggs,3/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese, salt, pepper, smoked paprika with mayo. Mix well and pour into dish and smooth evenly and sprinkle with smoked paprika. Made a huge pea salad Sunday for our Church Eat and Meet gathering that we have once a month. Tripled all my ingredients and put it in a 13 x 9 x 3″ aluminum pan. There was not one bite left.

I love pea salad! Just peas, mayo, onion, and bell pepper. I like the crunch the onion and bell pepper provide.

and sweet relish.
Judy Laquidara says
Thanks! I added sweet relish tonight and Vince said “This tastes better than it did last night!”

I love pea salad but Pat doesn’t. He doesn’t like peas!! So I only have it when we eat at a salad bar that has it!
Judy Laquidara says
I wouldn’t eat it with canned peas but I love it with frozen peas.

I used to make pea salad just like Mom: a sauce with Miracle Whip, mustard, milk, salt and pepper mixed with the thawed frozen peas, chopped onion, cubes of cheese and a couple of chopped hard boiled eggs AND THEN I found a recipe that uses thawed peas, ranch dressing, chopped onion, shredded cheese, and bacon! Game changer! It’s delicious!
Judy Laquidara says
So ranch dressing instead of the mayo, yogurt, etc. – ranch is the only “sauce”? I need to try that. Thanks.
TuNa Quilts says
Yup, just ranch salad dressing. Easy peasy. (Don’t use fat free as it doesn’t taste as good).
