The garden is really going crazy. I’m going to have to can some tomatoes or try to freeze dry some of them because there are a lot of tomatoes out there.
This is what I picked yesterday and about what I get every day. There was a 5th eggplant but I had just taken a big bowl out and I couldn’t get everything back to the house in the bowl. Vince was out with Rita so he took the other eggplant for me and it didn’t make it into the picture. How can two eggplant plants produce 3 or 4 or even five eggplants every other day. We can’t eat them fast enough!
Vince told me . . I don’t think okra is a good choice for small raised beds! Hmm . . do I look like someone who can live without okra? No! I planted mine late. I only had one package of seeds and some of them didn’t come up so I don’t have a ton of plants but look at that . . I picked one okra pod yesterday. I sent a text to the friend who brought the okra over and said “Don’t think you’re the best gardener in the neighborhood because I picked one okra pod today!” 🙂 Vince looked at me like . . is that supposed to be good? I told him . . I’m going to get two tomorrow! There were two almost big enough to cut last night. I’m sure I can cut them tomorrow. Three pods in two days . . it’s a start. Okra will produce til frost so I’ll be happy with what I can get. Now that the raised beds are built, I should get everything planted earlier next year . . and that will probably be the year for a very late freeze! 🙂
I have been trying to find rhubarb crowns and can’t find any. It looks like spring is when most places sell them but to me, fall is a better time to plant them. They say to thin the plants, if needed, and replant in the fall and I’ve always had better luck when planting them in the fall. I know somewhere, someone needs help with thinning their plants. I’d help and still pay for the extra plants if I could find someone who will do that. If not, I’ll buy the crowns from the nursery in the spring. I couldn’t grow rhubarb in Texas so I want to get it planted as soon as I can.
Otherwise, things are kinda winding down here. I still have three lilacs and two peonies to plant somewhere but we aren’t sure where we want them. I guess that’s a decision we need to make so we can get those in the ground in early fall.

Looks like you’re doing great on your garden! Especially since you started later than normal. I’m thinking of putting some beets in now. They mature in 60 days, which should work fine, unless we get an early frost. We sometimes have snow by Halloween, so it’s possible, but I’m hoping for the best! 🙂

Vivoaks, by Halloween, it will still be in the 80’s – 90’s here! An occasional snow would be something different and fun since we rarely get any at all. Now, I’m headed out to sweat profusely while I thin out sunflowers and dig up weeds.?

Wow, your produce looks great! We’ve been so dry here that our garden isn’t doing as well as last year. Our cucumbers are already dying out and today is the first day this summer I’ll be taking excess to the Food Pantry. Last year I was there once a week with our extras! I’m not good like you, I don’t can! Hope you find your rhubarb!

I can mail you some rhubarb crowns this fall, no problem. My row of 5 plants is a 50+ year old root stock, so big and healthy.
