This is the first full weekend of the month so, at least for me, it’s Blackbird Weekend Stitch Along weekend #BBDWeekendSAL if you want to see them in Instagram.
My stitching plan is to stitch on Away We Ride this weekend. Since this is a new start for me, that meant pulling floss, fabric, pulling more floss and trying to get it all figured out.
Last night Addie and I were up til way late playing with floss. She loved helping me choose and she did a good job.
I don’t have Wood Smoke by Gentle Arts but I have it ordered and it will be here before I need it.
For the most part, I used called for colors except I don’t have Pumpkin Pie but Addie is sure that Brown Sugar will work and I think she’s right. The change that gave me fits was the border.
The acorns themselves are a different color from the leaves and caps, but if using the suggested floss, as evidenced by the picture, the two colors appear to be the same. Why even change the color if they’re that close.
The called for colors are Onyx and Garden Gate. Using ust one strand, the skeins I have are going to totally blend.
I almost went with Forest Glade for the stems and caps but I didn’t want almost black, or in some areas, blackish-green acorns. The acorns in my part of the world are brownish. Actually, part of the chart has Onyx acorns and Garden Gate stems and then it switches so it’s vice versa. Plus, I have one 5 yard skein of Garden Gate; none of the places I shop have Garden Gate in stock and I need 15 yards.
Onyx is on the left, Bark is in the center and Garden Gate is on the right. I’m going to start out stitching with Onyx and Bark and see if I like it.
The called for fabric is 30 count Mink by R & R. I don’t have that but I’m going to use 32 count Vintage Country Mocha.
3:00 p.m. Saturday is halfway gone and I haven’t made the first stitch! But that is just about to change.

This is my Blackbird Design weekend too. That’s a great Halloween chart without looking really Halloweenie.
