Plans are made to be changed, right? I never mind when it’s something good that changes my plans and, other than being sick, nothing really bad ever happens . . I probably shouldn’t have said that, right.
First, Vince and I got up talking about how we’re staying home all day, happy to be staying home .. what are you going to do all day? I told him I was going to cross stitch and finish the dog food I started yesterday. I asked what he was going to do and he was going to water the plants, put away the water hoses because the grass cutters come today and that was about all that was on his agenda.
We’ve been paying to get the grass cut once a week since we bought the house up through about October, then started again in April up through now. While it’s nice to have someone cutting the grass . . in a way . . it seems they’ve done less and less. Vince talked to them and they have an excuse but the bottom line is . . for us, it isn’t worth what we’re paying, especially with Vince retired and being home all day. If he worked long hours and was traveling a lot – yes, we might pay someone to do it, though we never have before when he was working and traveling a lot. Who remembers when he left me in MO in March to move to Texas and I stayed tili August and had to keep up the yard and and lived in fear of the red tag man?? I definitely remember that. Don’t ask me why we didn’t pay somone to do the yard then, but we didn’t. Chad was off at college, then he graduated in May but he went off to Walmart training, then came home and had his tonsils out so the yard was my job.
Vince hadn’t wanted to get a mower til he had his shop because he doesn’t like to park mowers and have gas cans in the garage attached to the house but we do what we have to do.
Anyway, Vince decided to get a lawn mower and he knew exactly which one he wanted. That’s never a good thing with all the shortages. The guy at the lawn mower place kinda choked when Vince told him exactly the model he wanted. The guy said they weren’t even taking orders because there’s no telling when or if they’ll ever get it in. The guy was super nice and helpful. In fact, I wrote the company and commended him. He found the lawn mower Vince wants but it’s about 1-1/2 hours away. That’s problem #1. Problem #2 is that we don’t have a vehicle we could use to go get it. Not my fault! So, Vince called one of the nice neighbors and he and Vince are going to get it.
The other thing is that we haven’t had Addie in three weeks and I doubted I would get to have her here again til school starts. Chad is off on Fridays (or was!) and he likes spending the day with her but he’s going to have to start working on Fridays so he called this morning to see if I wanted to come get her after cheer practice today and keep her til Saturday. They’ll come get her Saturday because she has a birthday party so, I’m going to Nevada, MO to get her this afternoon.
All good changes – a lawn mower of our own and Addie for a couple of days!

I don’t know what is going on with lawn service people we live in CA and we have the same problem here….they never do what they say they are going to do. And then give excuses why they couldn’t do it, but the price never goes down.

Vince had already paid them for at least four more weeks. If they keep coming for four weeks, that’s fine. If not, Vince will be ready to start cutting it himself tomorrow.

We had our two youngest grandchildren here from Sat. mid-morning to Monday afternoon. We enjoy them so much but they need to be entertained a lot and never want to go outside to play. They like playing on tablets and their mom loads them down with “projects” so they won’t get bored. They wear us out, but school starts Aug. 12/13 so it will be harder to see them since they moved 3-3 1/2 hours away. We grabbed the chance while we had it.

Addie would stay outside all day but I have to be out there too. In Texas, I’d let her play out by herself but not here. I’m glad when she wants to come in for a while. We got back just before dark and she wanted to played outside so we stayed out til the mosquitoes were biting. I’ll work in the yard as long as I can stand it tomorrow and then she’ll come in and play on the tablet.

Sounds like all good changes to me.

We, too, have the same problem. Mow and blow, seems to be their MO. I complained to the owner of the business because we have weeds that are over 6′ tall (sent a picture). He said feel free to find another lawn service company. How’s that for service?
Judy Laquidara says
WOW! What has happened to customer service. Vince got his mower today so as soon as the current mowers have used up what we’ve paid in advance, we’ll be doing our own.

THis move has been the absolutely best thing for you all!
Judy Laquidara says
It has. Everyday something happens that makes me smile.
