Addie’s little kit of fireworks still had a few. She said some of them were for daytime so she and Vince went out and did those. She was chomping at the bit to to get the ones done that were for after dark but she was ready way before dark so we went out and she and Vince did them.
The rest of the neighborhood still seems to have plenty of fireworks. I surely hope last night was the last night but my guess is . . we’ll have a few each night for the next couple of nights. Poor Rita.
I went to bed well after midnight. The fireworks were still noisy and she was still barking. She has to be exhausted. I went right to sleep . . didn’t hear the fireworks or the dog barking. At least it didn’t interrupt my sleep but it surely is bothersome for about 4 or 5 hours in the evenings.

Have you ever tried sedation from the vet for Rita? Emmi suffers from severe separation anxiety when we leave her for ANY length of time–half an hour to six hours. The vet told me recently that her bouts of bloody diarrhea could be caused from stress and gave me Trazadone. It works! I left my iPad videoing her for three hours and she never howled once. In the past before the Trazadone she has howled for three hours straight–I videoed her! Just a thought.

I’m not sure which meds we’ve used but we tried several for her thunder anxiety but we had to give them to her at least 30 minutes before the “event” as I recall and while in Texas, thunder would be predicted and we’d give her meds and it would never happen – way more often than it did happen. We’re going to have to do something before New Year’s. I’ll talk to the vet about it. Thanks!

I’ve heard some people talking about pet CBD oil. They say it works, so it may be something to investigate. I know it helps people with anxiety.
