Yesterday when Addie and I were picking blackberries, she stopped, had a big smile and said “I know what I’m going to do when I grow up. I’m going to have a blackberry farm!” She said she wanted to grow blackberries and let people come pick because everyone is happy when they leave. One day at the Farmers’ Market, a young lady was selling flowers and Addie told me that’s what she was going to do . . grow flowers and sell them, so she’s kinda on a “grow something and sell it” kick. Poor child . . by the time she’s an adult, no one will probably be able to buy land. I told her that maybe I’ll give her my land in Louisiana and she can grow blackberries there.
The next breath, she said . . in all her drama . . “I am SOOOO hot! I think I’ll go to the car and turn the air conditioner on!” What? I don’t think so! First, Vince had the keys and he was across the field picking blueberries. Second, she was staying with me so she could help and get the job done faster or she could moan and complain and follow me around while I picked.
I told her . . if you want to have a farm of any kind and grow things, you’d better start loving to be hot, tired and sweaty. She said “OK . . I’ll be a teacher!” Oh, child . . you have a lot to learn about life! 🙂

In this day and age I do believe farming would easier and even less worrisome.
