There’s a family that is always at the Farmers’ Market selling fruits and vegetables and we purchase a lot from them. The line is always long at their booth. Not long after we moved here, as I was going to get Addie, I noticed a sign on the side of the road that pointed down the road and had the name of their farm on it. Yesterday morning when Vince was picking blueberries, someone mentioned to him that there was another berry farm down the road. Vince was telling me about it and I told him I had seen the sign so on the way back from picking Addie up, we stopped by there.
It’s a HUGE operation. Some day, when I talk to them more, I’ll ask them how many acres they farm. They had acres and acres and acres of corn. Today they had onions, potatoes, zucchini, yellow squash, tomatoes, and cucumbers. We were asking about blackberries. We can call ahead and they’ll pick for us or we can go there and pick on Mondays and Thursdays. They had a few extras they had picked for orders so we were able to get 1.5 pounds.
The blackberries were huge!! That’s one blackberry in Addie’s hand.
Along with making bread and English muffins, we made a cobbler last night and had blackberry cobbler with Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla ice cream. It was delicious.
Blueberries are by far my favorite berry but a blackberry cobbler a few times a year, or blackberry clafouti are nice too.

I bought blackberries at our farmers’ market last Saturday. They were insanely expensive this year. I will probably keep buying them, though, because I love blackberries, the season is short, and I don’t have the luxury of being able to pick blackberries at my Grandparents any more. Maybe I should plant some blackberry vines…:)

My niece has some thornless blackberry vines. So nice to pick!

That’s actually what these were and yes, so easy to pick.

Is Blue Bell the brand of ice cream you favored in Texas also? If I remember correctly you had one or two favorite flavors.
Judy Laquidara says
Yes. It’s been my favorite ice cream for years – like 30 years or more. We always have Homemade Vanilla in the house. I like Bride’s Cake, There was another cake flavor I loved . . I don’t think it was Birthday Cake but I can’t remember. Since their main creamery is Brenham, TX, which wasn’t far from where we were, every store around us there and a huge selection. Here, Aldi doesn’t have it (they did in Texas) and only the largest Walmart has a huge variety of flavors but I’m pretty happy to be able to get Homemade Vanilla.
When we lived in Kentucky for almost 10 years, no stores had it but not long after we left, one of my friends wrote me and said Kroger was carrying it.

Was another favorite Christmas cookie?? I seem to remember it having something to do with Christmas.

Thank you. My favorite berry is black raspberry, but blackberries are second!
