Today I am babysitting a friend’s 2 year old. A very active 2 year old. It’s just for the morning. I see a nap in my afternoon. 🙂 I told her I’d be over by 6:50 a.m. That’s kinda early to be up and out of the house but I’ll do it!
They also have a 5 year old but he’s in Kindergarten Camp. His mom said he’s upset that he doesn’t get to stay with me too. One at a time kiddo . . I’m not used to wild and crazy boys. I tried to bribe Addie to come stay with me and help me. I asked her if she would skip summer school on Monday and help me. She said no because for those who attend every day (June only), their name goes in a drawing for a bike. I told her . . Come help me and I’ll buy you a bike. Nope . . that didn’t work. I’m in this by myself.
While Vince and I were at the flea market Friday, I found a book, The Little Red Caboose, and I bought that to read to him. I was going to let him keep it but since I don’t have a gift for the 5 year old, I’ll keep the book and then get something for both of them.
These folks moved here not long before we did; came here with a job transfer and have no grandparents close by so I’m happy to help out when needed.
By the way, their daycare is closed due to several positive Covid tests among workers and children. I was so hoping we were past this but I also heard that the hospital here has reinstated the Covid visition (or lack of visitation) protocol. Scary!

When our kids were little, their grandparents lived over 1,000 miles away. One of the most wonderful memories for the kids and us were the older neighbors who “adopted” them as extra grandkids. The kids loved these wonderful neighbors and the time they spent with them was unforgettable even to this day (35 years later).

Even Vince likes these two boys so it’s easy to spend time with them. Both sets of their grandparents are about four hours away so close enough the kids still get to see them but not close enough for unexpected babysitting jobs so I can fill in for those.
