This is probably NOT in the Home Safety for Older Adults book (though I don’t even know that there is such a book). We went to town this morning and I bought more containers for the cat or for storing linen. We’ll let Boots make that decision. 🙂
I have three larger containers and three smaller containers, along with several other things that go downstairs. Who wants to make multiple trips down the stairs when I can place these on the top step and give them a good shove.
As I’m headed downstairs, I’ll nudge them down the rest of the way with my foot, then I won’t have so far to walk carrying everything. Lazy granny!

Had a friend with a 2 store house. On the upper level they had a basket to hold stuff and then lowered to other level using a rope. Just done the reverse to get stuff upstairs

I do that all the time, particularly with laundry that needs washing

I toss my laundry down the stairs. It’s the easiest way. Never tossed anything else but it sure gives me ideas.?

I figured sending it all down like that was easier than making three or four trips and trying to carry it all when I couldn’t see where I was stepping so I was being safe! That’s my story!

I do the same thing all the time–one of my favorites–I shove that huge package of Costco toilet paper down the stairs–and ours are not carpeted. It makes me smile as it tumbles to the bottom.

Toilet paper, paper towels, packages of quilt batting…they all tumble down so easily!
Judy Laquidara says
We all need more smiles! 🙂
Our extra TP is all stored in the basement so I don’t get that pleasure. Some day we’ll run out and I’ll have to buy more and then I can send it sliding down the stairs and I’ll think of you when I do it.

I do this ALL the time. It is much safer…ask me! I fell off, not down, but OFF the basement steps (about 4 steps from the bottom. I broke and dislocated my shoulder. I was carrying a plant. I push things down the steps to be safer.

I do that, too. Mostly with laundry or toilet paper. Our stairs go half way up to a landing and then the opposite direction the rest of the way. I just lean over the rail at the top and every thing goes straight to the bottom step. My own personal laundry chute.

Same here!
Bon says
I do that often.

It’s better than falling down the stairs with your hands full!! I’ve never lived in a 2-story house Don’t think, at this stage of the game, that I’d want to.
Carolyn says
When we lived in NY our house had a laundry chute. Everything went down it to be caught in the basket in the basement. When the kids got big enough to think of it, each of the cats went down it at least once…it was a rite of passage, but not one they enjoyed…and not one that happened when I was around! Fortunately, they didn’t throw their baby sister down, no matter how they felt about her when she was born! Now we don’t bother, each staircase is about 4 steps to a landing, so it’s not worth it…and I don’t carry much downstairs. If I did, i would throw it down too!
