I have to remind myself that I used to have to drive 10 hours one way to visit with Addie. Most weekends when she’s coming here, I pick her up after school on Friday. The round trip, by the time I drive up there, go by their house and get her stuff, then pick her up, then drive home, takes me about 2 hours, 20 minutes. A lot of times, especially during the winter when the days are short, they’ll meet me halfway when it’s time for her to go home or sometimes they come here and eat dinner, and I don’t have to make any trip.
This weekend, they came to Joplin on Friday and brought her. Nicole had to work this weekend so Chad offered to meet me halfway yesterday to get her but I knew he needed that time so we drove her all the way home. Chad’s busy getting his garage re-arranged and cleaned out because this jewel is coming to live at his house.
It was my grandpa’s truck and my uncle has had it and he’s giving it to Chad but Chad has to promise him he has inside storage for it so the garage is being cleaned out so they can keep their SUV and Pop’s old pickup in the garage.
Anyway, as Vince and I were driving home after dropping Addie off, we were talking about how long the trip there and back is. I laughed . . it isn’t 10 hours one way! I’ll drive a bit over two hours any day to get to spend a few days with that girl.

What a gorgeous old truck – and a treasure to pass along and keep in the family. I know what you mean about the driving distance. I was grumbling a bit last week about driving 99 miles one way to watch my granddaughter play softball. But it’s so much shorter than the 300 mile one way drive we made when they lived in Rapid City.

Gorgeous truck! Reminds me of my granddads old truck. We didn’t have a truck when I grew up so us kids thought we were cool riding in it.
Many years later my grandma told me the reason a lot of women didn’t drive back then was because there was no power steering.

That is so incredibly beautiful! Donnie had a vintage Apache truck that was unfortunately stolen. Chad is so fortunate to have this wonderful family treasure! I know he will love it.

Gorgeous truck! We had a red 55 Chevy truck with the split windshield. It had an original wooden rail bed. Loved it. It definitely made me miss power steering!!
The kids are pressuring us to move back to California. Sorry, kids. Love and miss you all, but it won’t be happening any time soon. I’ll continue to make the 2 day drive each way!!

Beautiful old truck! My dad had an Apache about that year. His was 4WD, is this one? Sometimes it was the neighborhood school bus when the snow got deep and the county plow hadn’t been out yet.
