When we lived in Kentucky and MO the first time, my sewing room was in the basement and I mostly stayed down there all day. Of course, Vince wasn’t home all day. When we bought this house, cross stitching never entered my mind but I had planned to knit downstairs, either in the sewing room or in the downstairs family room. I fully expected that Vince would spend all his inside time downstairs watching TV but he hasn’t. He watches F1 racing for a couple of hours every other week and that’s it. Who would have thought?? Since I stated cross stitching before Vince got here, I guess that’s why I set it all up in the upstairs family room.
But . . it isn’t working out so well upstairs. No matter where Vince sits, my light is in his eyes because I have shining kinda away from me and glancing over the fabric. Second, it’s about 20 degrees warmer upstairs. We keep the air on 70 and I’d be happier with it on 68. If we stay downtairs, we can keep the air on 78 or even higher. If we keep our bedroom door (upstairs) closed, the bedroom doesn’t get so hot because there are so many vents in there. I think between the bathroom, dressing area, closet and bedroom, there are 7 vents. I would prefer to sleep in the basement bedroom but so far have not convinced Vince to do that.
I’ll set up a chair, use an inexpensive ottoman from Amazon for my feet, and when I’m done stitching, I’ll put everything in there to keep Boots from getting into it. Vince will watch TV or play on the computer in the downstairs family room so my light will not be in his eyes. I prefer listening to music so I can have that on in the sewing room and if there’s something good on TV (said by someone who doesn’t like TV at all!), I can go sit in the family room with Vince and stitch.
If we stay downstairs til about 8 p.m., it doesn’t take the upstairs long to cool down when we lower the thermostat so it’s nice and cool when we go to bed. Seems crazy to cool the entire house just to make the bedroom cool but . . that’s how it is.
The way it seems to work for us is that we have breakfast about 10:30. In the summer, we don’t seem to eat as much so a salad and sandwich or a light meal about 3 works for us so I’m not cooking so much. I got most of the cooking for this week done this morning so other than heating up the food and cooking a couple of veggie that are better fresh cooked, I hardly have any cooking to do this week.
I found this chair and I want it but Vince doesn’t want to buy a chair until I sit in it and make sure I like it. Where does that happen these days? I’m not saying anything else because remember . . I thought it would take us months to find a mattress and he walked into the furniture store and bought the first one we tried.
Even though he didn’t want to buy a chair til I sat in it, Vince decided to look online for one. He said “Do you have to have sides?” I said “Yes, because when I get another dachshund, he’ll sit with me in my chair.” He didn’t say “We’re never getting another dog!” so that gives me hope.
I worked downstairs today and I do have room for my chair, ottoman and light now. It isn’t neat. It isn’t pretty but there’s a spot for it and every day I get a little more done.

I love that chair!

Me too but there’s no way I can try it out before I order it so unless Vince decides it’s worth the risk, I’ll have to settle for something local that I can sit in for 5 minutes and decide if it’s comfortable or not. Men! 🙂

I just did this Google search – how to chart a Canadian flag instead of US flag cross stitch
Quite a few charts for Canadian flags came up. I’m betting you could easily sub one of those in for a U. S. flag in a chart. Just find one close to the same size and shape.

My stitching station is in the master bed room, in a corner away from the bed. My DH complained about the light too, I got a new LED Ott light which has a dimmer on it, with a goose neck, I can angle it over my shoulder on to the stitchery. He hasn’t complained any more, either he’s used to it or it is better, lol. I would like to be able to cross stitch in the sewing room, but that room is too small to put an extra chair in.
