The blueberry farm opened for picking at 8 this morning. We got there about 8:30 and there were already a lot of people there but there were so many plants, it wasn’t crowded at all.
There’s Addie and Vince picking on one row. Addie decided pretty quickly that it was easier for her to reach the berries down lower.
It got pretty hot before we were done so we stopped before Vince was ready to stop. We had already ordered two gallons that they picked and we picked close to a gallon. We picked almost 6 pounds and I think each gallon was about 5 or 6 pounds so we came home with lots of blueberries.
I’m glad they didn’t weigh us before we started and after we finished because I think we all ate our share of blueberries while picking them.
I rinsed them all off and put them on trays to freeze, Then I’ll divide them up into probably 2 cups per bag and vacuum seal them after they’re frozen.
We’ll go back later in the week and get more. I’d like to end up with enough that we have at least one bag for each week, maybe six bags per month. We use them in cereal and salads, plus I love making blueberrie cakes, muffins and other yummy goodies throughout the year.

I guess Addie learned some things are worth getting up early to do. Is she becoming a teenager so soon???

She’s 8 but she will be a teenager way too soon.

Judy I’m intrigued by those sheet lifters shown in your freezer. Great idea and please explain what you used.
Good for you all with putting food up and sharing those experiences with Addie, she is so grown up looking already.

They’re actually the little things you find in the pizza boxes when you order pizzas to be delivered. I order them from Amazon – https://amzn.to/3gHgYk8
I use the a lot when I’m filling trays for the freeze dryer and placing them in the freezer. Things that are liquid need to be frozen before going into the freeze dryer because it sits at a slight incline so the water from the melted ice after the process will drain out.
