Rita’s Heating Pad

Remember back in probably October, 2020 that I ordered a pet heating pad for Rita. It stayed on day and night . . it went off, she started barking. She truly loves it.

After a few months, I decided we’d better get a back up and one for downstairs, thinking Vince would spend a lot of time downstairs and she would be down there with him. Probably in January, the heating pad went out so I tossed it and started using the second one. Lately, she started chewing on it. The poor dog has so very few teeth. She has only several teeth left so how she was able to chew threw fabric and plastic, I’ll never know. Vince got some kind of heavy duty tape and taped all around the top and she chewed through that. It was getting down to where she was almost chewing into electrical parts so . . she lost her luxurious heating pad and was now sleeping only on her cushy Serta dog bed.

She did ok for about a week but the last few days, she’s aggravated the heck out of us wanting a heating pad. Last night Vince said “Where is the other one? I can’t take it any more!” I went downstairs and got it. We put it in several pillowcases and taped it shut so she can’t accidentally get up in the pillow cases and get lost and not find her way out. She’s a little bitty dog and blind. We put that heating pad in there and before it was even warm, she knew what it was, curled up on it and has been quiet.

We ordered two more heating pads as back ups. I could see something happening to this last one, having no backups and them being on backorder for six months! Not a fun time at our house!

We’re all set now. A new one yesterday and two more on the way. They may outlast the dog.

Judy I don’t know what is going on with your website. But it is going crazy with ads. Sometimes I can’t even look at replies for all the ads covering them up faster than I can click to go away. Thought I would let you know.

As you know, I don’t have a lot of control over the ads. They come and go. Some days there are more than others.

My daughter bought one of these for her cat. He over-grooms and is almost bald. She said it has really calmed him down and he loves it. Gets off only for food and the litter box. She is hoping it will help him stop over-grooming so his hair will grow back. He is a beautiful Siamese.

I’m not getting one for my chi but he would love it. He loves to go outside and sunbathe.

Maybe you should look for a bulk buy of heating pads like 6 at a time!

I have a couple of pet beds that have a little heating pad under the cushion. That might work if she starts chewing again.

I wondered if they made such a thing. Thanks!

What about unzipping the Serta dog bed cover and sticking the heating pad inside?

I’m afraid she would chew up the Serta covering. The covering that came on the pad is kinda valour like and it may be the texture of it that has her chewing it, which she didn’t do with the first one. I’m going to get some ticking or something not quite so soft and make a cover for it, then maybe get a regular pillow protector that zips and put that over what I make. I don’t know why she never once chewed the first one and totally destroyed the second one and they’re just alike.

Could she have gotten food on the cover?

I don’t think so but who knows. We feed her outside her little area but even after Vince taped it all up, she chewed through the tape. It’s just weird.
