Of course, I’m always speaking of cross stitching supplies! When I starte cross stitching again in late Fall or early Winter, 2020, I did what I always do and went wild ordering floss and fabric. It is almost impossible to get some fabrics, even entire brands – those are sold the instant they hit the stores, if ever they get as far as the stores.
The other day there was some Lakeside Linens 40 Count Vintage Meadow Rue linen posted. That’s one that is used so often in samplers and everything, really. I’ve never even seen it availble. At 123Stitch, you can only order what’s in stock so it was in stock for probably 10 seconds. I guess too many of us ordered at once because I got this yesterday.
Do you see that? Scheduled to ship January 24th. That’s more than seven months! It’s a good thing I have a variety of linens here. I don’t have a lot and I have very few larger pieces but I have enough to keep me busy so I’m not the least bit concerned. The good thing about linen is that even though Lakeside’s Vintage Meadow Rue may be very hard to get, there are others that are similar enough that I should be able to find something that will work. Will we ever go back to the days when specialty things are easy to find?
Is anyone still having trouble finding “normal” things? Seems like flour, yeast, toilet paper . . all those things are plentiful these days.

I guess the only thing I’ve really been sort of searching for is canning jar lids. I’ve only seen 2 packages of an off-brand regular size lids in well over a year. I was shocked when on a whim a week ago, I checked out the canning section at WM and there were nearly 2 cases of Ball wide mouth lids. I was sort of surprised there wasn’t a limit on how many one could purchase. I wish I knew how fast those flew off the shelves once word spread.
Paper & cleaning products and grocery items seem pretty much back to normal. DH has sort of been looking for a pickup truck – no luck finding what he wants, new or used. I guess it’s a good thing my rate of stitching is pathetically slow?

I saw Ball lids in Walmart last week too and did a double take . . haven’t seen those in ages. Every store we go in now seems to be well stocked with canning jars.

I am having trouble finding can lids in the stores. Last year in desperation I ordered some on line and got some really poor quality knock-offs thru Amazon. I will not do that again. I found some ball lids on the shelf last week and forced myself to only buy 4 of each size and leave some for others.
Judy Laquidara says
I saw Ball lids at Walmart last week but didn’t buy any. Like you, I left them for others. I have a lot of lids here and will probably not do much canning in the future.

I sell fabric and we are way behind on shipments. My rep said Customs is backed up with containers still waiting to be cleared. Anything that is coming from overseas is still slow.

I order a lot of linen from XJu Designs in Hungary and it does take forever to get through customs but I had never ordered before the pandemic so I have no idea how much faster it might have been then.

A rug that I ordered for my living room is out of stock until at least August. I believe it was ordered in March. Same story with a bookshelf that I want for my office.

I haven’t shopped for these, but: how about major appliances? How far ahead do you still have to order refrigerators? Also, there was an article in the paper just this morning about the shortage of new cars. Dealers have a fraction of what they used to carry.
Judy Laquidara says
The car lots here have very few vehicles on them. They didn’t even take a deposit in the fridge because they have no idea . . maybe over a year. The stove was supposed to be 2 – 4 months and the dishwasher 6 months. It’s been close to 2 months on the stove but we haven’t heard anything.
Claudia says
I have not been able to order the white dishwasher I want for over 6 months. Stainless steel I can order but not white. I’m still finding items at the grocery stores are not always in stock, not food so much, but non food items.
Judy Laquidara says
I’m waiting on white too. I have the dishwasher and stove on order but not the fridge.
