It’s kinda weird that so many houses here don’t have covered patios, decks or porches. Vince and I were talking about it last night and he couldn’t remember many houses he’s had that did have a covered area. Our house in Kentucky did and our house in Texas did but it seems like almost every house I’ve ever had did have some area that was covered.
Here, and in our other house in MO, there’s no place to put the smoker or grill and be able to use it if it’s raining. Vince came up with a plan to pour a concrete pad from our downstairs patio (which is under the deck) and then put a metal roof over that. One of our neighbors has one and it doesn’t look bad.
Vince called the dozer/tree removal guy, Josh, and he came by yesterday. He has someone who will do the concrete work so Josh is going to contact his dirt guy and get him to start bringing dirt to level where Vince’s shop will be, then Josh will come back and get that all level and ready. He’ll also dig out where we’re going to put the concrete pad and get his concrete guy out to do the rest.
We had a river birch that’s dying. It looks like the base of it was struck by lightning so Josh is going to cut that and take it off.
Sometimes it seems like the work never ends – more so for Vince than for me.
