When I’m working on a cross stitch piece, since I mostly use one strand of floss, when I’m working on something with a lot of colors, I spend a lot of time messing with floss. Since most flosses have 6 strands, I strip out one, then if it’s DMC on a bobbin, I wrap the remaining 5 strands back on the bobbin. If it’s fancy floss, I pull one out, then feed the remaining 5 through the hole where the remaining floss is.
I bought one of Lori Holt’s Bitty Boards from Fat Quarter Shop and that saved so much time. As I was cross stitching this morning, I thought . . I need more of these because if I have several projects going, and you know I do, then I’m going to need more than one little board. I knew I could make them so I went downstairs and played around with an idea.
I wanted to add a little flap for needles. When there’s still thread left on a needle, I stick the needle over on my magnetic strip but it would be nice to be able to keep the needle with the thread.
I made this one like a little pillowcase and stuck a piece of foamcore inside. I think adding colored fabric around the edges will keep the white flannel from getting as dirty so when I make more, I’ll try adding fabric edges.
The back could have been finished a little neater. I’ll do better on the next one.
There it is in use! I think I’ll get some of those little white plastic rings (like for curtains I think) and sew one on it and I can then hang it on the door beside my chair.
It felt good to sit at the sewing machine for a while today.

OMG what a clever idea, will give it a try. Like the idea of making them ourselves.

You always have good ideas! I’ve been attacking my x-stitch stash, too, and need to get serious about all my yarn!

Lori Holt has a tutorial on you tube for her design boards “Bee In My Bonnet Design Board Tutorial.” You can make them small to use for threads.

Thank you! So many of your posts are helpful. Some are costly!!! This is great, I envision several being made at my house. It will feel good to get back to my machine too, I think!
