Getting started on the house was what I really wanted to do and I got to that point last night.
So far, everything is lining up and that’s a big accomplishment for me. I’m not going to get too confident yet but I haven’t had any problems up til now.
One thing I’m thinking about . . the chart shows the windows dark. Maybe I’m missing something but “being a friend to all” doesn’t seem like I’d have blackout curtains on the windows. I’m thinking about making the windows a light gold . . like there’s light on inside the house. The windows are 5 stitches across and 6 vertical but if I made them 5 x 7, I could stitch a grid for window panes. Am I missing something . . is there a good reason to leave the windows black or does my idea about changing them seem ok?
If I did that, should I leave the dormer windows black or put lights on in them too?
I keep thinking maybe there’s a reason they’re black and I hate to screw up the whole idea of the saying/project but black windows just don’t seem friendly to me.

Follow your instincts so you are happy and peaceful when you admire and love the finished piece. Let it convey how you feel about a welcoming home!

You’re the one that will be looking at the finished item, change it to make you happy!

I think I’d make all the windows a light gold, including the dormers. Sounds like a great change to me!

It sounds like a great idea.

Totally agree with you – the look of the house as they’ve shown it appears funereal to me. I love your idea of a light golden fabric in each window (dormers included), which supports the idea that the house is welcoming ALL to come, sit and visit a while!

I like the idea of “light” in the windows. I often see where changes are made to a design to please the actual stitcher. Go for it and you will like it better and not see it as a mistake that is unpleasant to you. I also like the idea of sashings in the windows.

I agree the house would look friendly.
