I love subscription packages that arrive monthly or semi-monthly and it’s always a surprise.
Back in my single parent days of trying to make ends meet, I had a subscription to Sweet Treats (fat quarters of quilting fabric). At the end of the month, I was scraping to put food on the table if I had paid the house note, utilities, Chad’s school tuition, etc. and every month that package came and I would tell myself . . I have to cancel this, I can’t afford it. But I would always tell myself that the monthly package was the one thing in my life that I looked forward to and I’d figure out a way to pay the approximately $25 per month. It was years and years before I ever actually took apart those little fat quarter packs and used some of them. They were just too pretty and I kept them and fondled them and felt a bit pampered having them around.
These days, money isn’t so tight but I still look so forward to the two subscriptions I have – Colour & Cotton’s floss packs (and I am on the list to join their fabric club too) and XJu Designs’ monthly fabric package. You would think the thrill of a little surprise package wouldn’t be so great but it is.
I have not used any of the floss that has arrived in the club packets. I almost used one of the XJu fabrics for my June Camp project but I told Vince .. if I use it, I won’t have it any more. He thought that was so crazy but that’s ok . . I found something esle that would work.
Here’s the floss packats that arrived today. I’m in the “All Colors” and the “Primitive/Traditional” clubs.
Such awesome colors and there’s 8 yards on each skein. Love getting these!
For anyone wanting to join either the thread or fabric clubs, there are waiting lists. You can visit Colour & Cotton’s website and sign up to be placed on the waiting lists. I didn’t have to wait too long to get on the floss list but am still waiting for the fabric club.

I loved Sweet Treats. Every big quilt show they would have a booth and I’d spend plenty of time(and money) picking out the little bundles I absolutely must have. It took a long while before I could remove the ribbon and use the pieces. i think I still have one I haven’t opened. They’re no longer in business…. But thanks for the good memories.

Oh yes! I remember the first time I went to the Paducah Quilt Show. Vince and I were newly married and he hadn’t yet figured out how much money I could spend if left to my own devices so I bought a few Sweet Treats there.

Sweet Treats came from The Pin Cushion in Davis, CA. I lived in Sacramento. I spent WAY too much money there over the years. I LOVED their Sweet Treats. What fun memories!

Yes! Thank you. Are they still in business?

But they closed in 2016. They still have a pattern company, and the fb page seems active.

Thanks!

I absolutely loved my Sweet Treats! We were in the same position, no money to spare, three young kids, I wasn’t working but my husband insisted that i deserved something nice, so that was my treat each month! I saved them in their pretty ribbons until I needed them…many wound up as part of an hourglass quilt, and many other quilts. I still have some bits and pieces in my stash! The shop must still be around, they have a Facebook page! https://www.facebook.com/pincushionsweettreats/ My treats now are a monthly mini quilt kit from Temecula Quilt Compamy and a monthly set of Applique blocks from Jeanna Kimball called “A Friendship Offering”. Very far behind on both, but love them to bits!
