But . . we did! We said we weren’t going to have a garden and we don’t have much of one but we have one started.
This one has three pepper plants, parsley in the middle and two squash plants.
This one has 6 tomato plants and I’ll plant two more in there.
There’s also a 4 x 8 bed with asparagus, a 4 x 4 bed with strawberries, a 4 x 4 and a 4 x 8 bed not yet planted. There’s also a 4 x 4 bed that we’ll set up somewhere near the main level that I’ll use for herbs and cooking.
But what we really said we weren’t going to do was fruit trees.
As of now, we have the following that need to be planted:
- 3 peach trees
- 2 plum trees
- 2 raspberry fines
- 12 elderberry trees/shrubs
- 2 peonies
- 2 lilacs
- 2 wysteria
There could be something else I’m not remembering. By the time we get all this planted, IF it all survives, we aren’t going to have much grass to cut!
Poor Vince. Addie has been begging, seriously begging for plum trees. She wanted to know if we could just go to the store and buy plums. We told her yes, but they won’t taste like the ones we grew in Texas probably. She really wants plums so Vince left yesterday morning and went to Home Depot and Lowes in Joplin, Lowe in Carthage and called Home Depot in Pittsburg, KS. No plum trees. I called a local nursery and they had them so I said “Addie, get your shoes on . . we’re going to buy plum trees!” She was so excited. We got the two so now we have to figure out where to plant all that stuff. We have to leave a path to the back yard for filling the propane tank and we have to leave a path to the side of the back yard were Vince’s shop is probably going to go so . . I hope we don’t run out of space before we get everything planted.
You may see a lavender plant in the picture. I’ve already planted that so that’s one thing that doesn’t have to be planted.

Once a gardener, always a gardener! Looking good!

No brown turkey fig bush? I’m disappointed.
Judy Laquidara says
We haven’t found any here yet. Most figs don’t grow here but Brown Turkey should. Maybe next year I’ll order a couple . . if we haven’t planted something in every square inch of yard.

Enough to satisfy your love of a garden, but not too much to be overwhelming! Love it!
Judy Laquidara says
Yes! I think/hope that’s exactly how it works.

The raised beds look really good. My friend near Branson says the ground is just impossible to plant much because of the stony ground.
Judy Laquidara says
It’s unbelievable how much rock is here.

Junkie. Yup, a junkie……LOL. I have no doubt you will enjoy the fruits of your labor without regret!
Rebecca says
At least it’s (mostly) contained. I’m not surprised you couldn’t just NOT grow anything, but it does look like you’re going for your usual abundance vibe! At liast you get to (literally) enjoy the fruits of your labor. (I’ll see myself out.)
Judy Laquidara says
At least for now, we are under control. With four 4 x 4 raised beds and three 4 x 8 raised beds, that’s less than 120 square feet where in Texas, the high fenced garden was 10,000 square feet. There, we had 60 fruit trees. So far, here we have five. Well, that’s not counting the elderberries! 🙂
I would like to get a couple of fig trees next year if we can find the variety that grows here.

I wondered how long you might hold out, especially on the plums. I’m glad you found them.
