This morning we drove over a bit east of here to talk to a man about a shop for Vince. After they were done talking, the man told us that his sons have chickens and he had eggs for sale but he gave us a dozen. Then he was talking about cows and they raise cows something early next year they’ll have some ready for the freezer so by the time it was over, we bought a cow (for the freezer).
From there we went back by the nursery where we’re getting our Green Giant trees. The landscape guy is coming out this afternoon to help us figure out placement so we’ll know how many we need. They had one peony left so I got that. Now I have two pinks and one red.
Vince feels lost without his shop but I still don’t think he’s 100% sure what he wants to do.

Don’t you have a downstairs “garage” that is near your quilt room? What is going in there – your freeze dryer, garden stuff, ???? Or can that be a mini shop until the decision is made?
Once you get all your garden beds and trees in place, you’ll have to give us a photo tour of the outside. Sounds like you will have a very green and lush yard – quite a change from the Texas brown.
Judy Laquidara says
Definitely a change from Texas. Every time we go out, we both comment on how green it is.
Yes, there’s a garage downstairs. Not that it matters but it’s on the opposite side of the house from the sewing room. It’s air conditioned but it has all my buckets of food (flour, wheat, beans, rice, sugar, oats, etc.), our excercise equipment and a lot of things that will go into the shop storage area. Vince wants to set that room up for his 3D printing and doesn’t want sawdust and wood debris in there.
The working part of the shop I think will be 16 x 22 and that area will be air conditioned. The storage area will be about 14 x 20. It will not be air conditioned. We’ll have things like lawn equipment, shovels, hoes, gas cans, etc. in there. It won’t be nearly as big as the Texas shop but . . it doesn’t need to be.

I forgot about the new exercise equipment that needs a home. That is a good spot for the 3-D printers since Vince will have to check on the print progress and may prefer to stay in the house vs walking over to the shop.
It will be interesting to see if Vince starts hosting “coffee hour” with the guys at the shop or computer room. And you can have a needlework/knitting/quilting group that moves around to different homes for a couple hours of stitch time!

The 3D printers really need to be in a climate controlled area because heat and humidity will affect the filament. The shop will be air conditioned but it will also have lots of dust and sawdust that doesn’t need to be around the 3D printers.
We’re not that social. The guys have their time together on Wednesday evening at another guy’s shop down the road. I tried the knitting group in Texas. I do better just working on my own or with a friend occasionally.

I’m glad he’s investigating possibilities for a shop. A man needs a shop.
Judy Laquidara says
You’re right. Whether he uses it or not, having it makes him feel better.
