There was a time when I got frustrated with Vince’s timing and planning. We would talk about doing something and he would say something like “Can you fix dinner, we’ll eat and get the kitchen cleaned so we can leave in 15 minutes?” Hmmm . . no! Or, if we were going to a friend’s house, Vince would say “I’m going to cut the grass first. Tell them we’ll be there in 20 minutes.” NO! It takes an hour to cut the grass, then you have to shower and we’re 30 minutes from their house!
I always thought I had a fairly realistic grasp of how long things would take. I can usually look at a recipe and know about how long it will take me start to finish. Even with longarm quilting, I knew, depending on the size of the quilt and what type quilting I was doing, almost exactly how long it would take to get it done.
With cross stitching, I have Vince’s sense of timing.
This is Memorial Day. I thought I would have all three flags done by the end of this weekend. This is the first of three flags and I have so little of it done, I doubt I have that one flag finished by the end of the weekend, considering this is Sunday morning and the weekend ends tonight.
My friend, Denise at Just Quiltin’ . . she could have stitched this entire design in less than a weekend. We were chatting last night and she said . . it’s the difference in linen and aida. She uses aida and I use linen. No, dear Denise. I am slow. Really, I let too many other things interrupt my stitching. That may not be the entirety of my problem. I may be just slow but yesterday it was the garden and cooking and making bread and . . I was going to say doing laundry but how long does it take to throw clothes in the washer and push the button? Not long. I did take a nap.
Thursday and Friday nights I didn’t slept so great, which is way not normal for me. Thursday night I was hot. All night I was hot. We had the fan on, we had the a/c on the usual temp. I got up once and turned it lower, got up again and turned it lower, then Vince got up and turned the fan off because he was freezing and at 3 a.m. I told him . . no, I’ll put the a/c back on the regular temp because it costs less to run the fan than the a/c. Then he wanted to know why I was hot. Well . . heck if I know!
Friday after I picked Addie up, we got home and Vince wanted to go eat Mexican. Addie and I had gone back by her house for shoes, then stopped at the nursery looking for plum trees so we were already late getting home. Mexican after about 2 p.m. and my tummy was not happy.
Last night I slept better so hopefully I’ll be back to my normal sleep like a rock nighttime routine.
So, the updated plan for Memorial Day – finish Flag #1 by midnight tonight! 🙂

Sometimes when I am hot, especially in the night, I am actually dehydrated and need water. Maybe try that.

Isn’t Memorial Day next weekend?

The name of the chart is “Memorial Day.”
Dotti in CT says
Yes. It is next weekend. Plenty of time for Judy to “ getter done”!

You saying she cross stitches faster than you do is just like me saying you knit faster than I do. You have been knitting longer than I have and I don’t understand all the terms and have to figure them out. The same with you and cross stitch. I know you have done it before but not in several years. You are not going to be as fast as her right away. Give it time, and take your time. It will be much more satisfying and look better when you do that. You are doing a fantastic job of it!
