The highlight of dinner for me was homemade rolls!
We had lasagna, fried eggplant, kohlrabi and corn on the cob. Addie and Vince love lasagna, Vince loves fried eggplant and kohlrabi but I knew Addie wouldn’t eat that. We all ate corn on the cob. I never got around to making the salad – we had plenty without it.
We went out and planted the rest of the asparagus, planted the peppers, yellow squash and parsley. Vince only bought two tomato cages because he wasn’t sure he could get them far enough into the ground (rock!) but since we’re planting in raised beds, he could get them down far enough so we planted two tomatoes and he’ll get more cages tomorrow and we’ll finish planting the rest of the tomatoes. We started out going to plant a couple of slicing tomatoes and a couple of cherry tomatoes. We have 12 tomatoes to get planted. That’s probably too many . . if they all live and do well.
Vince bought a peach tree the other day. He said it was calling his name when he passed by it. We want to get another peach tree and two plum trees. I’d really like two cherry tress but, even though they grow into a beautiful tree here, there are not reliable producers so I don’t know if we’ll do it or not. I think I’ll always regret not trying to grow cherries if we don’t but six fruit trees, raspberry vines and a garden may be more than we need to be taking on.
We definitely need to get acclimated to this humidity. It’s a killer when you aren’t used to it.

I just don’t think I could live anywhere humid again.

It is so humid here and it has been raining off and on for several days. We have had a lot of rain and you know what that means in Texas!! Mosquitos as big as grasshoppers!

I think maybe once in the 10 years we were there did we have a bad mosquito problem. I guess that just goes along with the rand and since rain is so much appreciated there, what can we say? I hope the rain doesn’t mean those giant grasshoppers will be back.
