We have had chances of terrible weather all week. We’ve been so lucky. We’ve had hardly any rain. In fact, I don’t think there’s been a single day that someone wasn’t out cutting grass. We haven had any thunder. Yesterday Vince wanted to go to Walmart and we were going to eat at a Korean restaurant so he looked at the weather and said he wanted to be at the restaurant when they opened so we could eat and get back before bad weather. We went out and did our running around before we ate. While we were in the restaurant, it sprinkled just a little.
We went to get ice cream after eating and the sky was beginning to look a bit threatening.
Vince said “Let’s be quick and get home before the weather gets here.” I may have rained somewhere in the area but didn’t rain on us at all.
You can see the circus tent in the distance. Last weekend I told Vince “Don’t forget the circus is in town so let’s make sure we don’t pass by with Addie because she’ll want to go.” We ended up going out to dinner with Jeremy and Angie. They picked us up and I almost texted Jeremy and asked if we could go around the block so Addie wouldn’t see the circus but I didn’t. Of course, she saw it and said “I’ve never been to a circus!” When we got home, I explained to her that I’m not real crazy about a circus and I don’t think animals should be in a circus act. How would you feel if you were an elephant and you wanted to be free but you stayed in a cage and had to perform for people all the time? Not too good, she said. I would rather not have had that conversation – just not something for an 8 year old to have to think about but, since she saw it and wanted to go, I wanted her to know how I felt about it. I did tell her that when she’s older, she can read all about circus animals and then make her own decision.
A couple of days ago, I saw that “due to the popularity”, the circus had added shows and would be staying longer so we’ll make sure to avoid that area this weekend. Out of sight; out of mind.
But, the weather . . Saturday it will be 10 years since the Joplin tornado. There are many people living here who were not in this area then but there are many people who feel nervous and somber about the day. There were 161 fatalities and even those who weren’t here, I think they all know about the tornado and how many people lost their lives and how badly Joplin was damaged.
We have a chance of a thunderstorm today and a chance on Sunday but Saturday, as of today, they’re not mentioning thunderstorms and I haven’t heard of any chance for severe weather. I remember before the 2011 tornado, the weather folks had been talking for days about how likely it was going to be that we would have a major outbreak of tornadoes. So, I pray we get through this weekend with no severe weather and I pray for those who lost loved ones, especially, but also for those who lost homes filled with precious memories.

Good for you explaining to Addie the reason you prefer not to attend a circus instead of just saying no. Hopefully she will remember this when she has her own children (OMGosh what a thought how time flies). I have read stories about how badly some of the animals are treated. I never liked the bull whips at all.
