We have the best neighbors! I mentioned that one had tomato plants that she gave me yesterday. I had also mentioned about my new cross stitching friend, whose barn I can see from my house. She uses Dazor lights for cross stitching and when I was at her house, she let me use one of hers and I liked it. Today she and her husband came by and brought for me to keep for a while and try it. She also brought me two packages of John James gold plated needles to try. How nice but . . it gets better.
The man said all the “old men” in the neighborhood get together at a house down the road (the shop really) on Wednesday night and . . do man stuff. I think they build things, fix things, tell fishing stories and maybe drink a little beer. I’m so excited for Vince. He’s needed a man friend for a long time and I hope he’ll go and have fun. But .. it gets better! Can it possibly? Yes!
I asked the man “What’s that stuff growing at the front of your garden that looks like huge squash? RHUBARB! Vince and I both had to catch our breath then said “RHUBARB?” We love rhubarb and we’re just a bit too far south to find it easily. The man said . . it’s ready! Come over and cut what you want! He said he’d share some roots with me. I’m so excited about that. I planted some in Nevada just before we moved and couldn’t grow it in Texas so I’m really excited . . really excited!
Vince has gone to try to get the old truck inspected. My fingers are crossed that it passes. When Vince gets home, we’re going to cut rhubarb!
Did we move to the right place? The right house in the right area in the right town in the right state! I’m so happy here .. even though it’s almost mid-May and we’re still wearing jackets and I just checked the thermostat and it was 63 in the house so the heat is back on for a few minutes. I’m pretty sure some (or all) of you were sick of me saying I wanted to move back to Missouri but I think MO is where I was meant to live. No doubt I can be too emotional but sometimes when I think about how long I waited to get back here, how little hope I sometimes had that it would ever happen and how happy I am, and really, Vince likes it here too . . I find myself wiping away a happy tear.
I don’t remind Vince of it but I’ll never forget looking at houses for sale in Nevada, MO and telling Vince about one I found. He looked at me and said “I am not moving back to Missouri. I don’t care if they’re giving away houses there!” Well, they weren’t giving away houses but .. here we are! 🙂

So happy to hear how things are going and how being in that house in that neighborhood was meant to be!! Also was touched by your building relationship with your “Norman”. I remember listening to that story when you wrote about it.

I hope when you go for rhubarb you don’t cut the stalks but pull and twist them. This evidently encourages new growth.

Yes, and I then cut the ends/leaves off before bringing them in and washing them.

I’m so glad you are this happy, Judy. You deserve it, and so does Vince. You have found a wonderful neighborhood and friendly neighbors, even Bud. =)

You may have bloomed where you were planted, but I think you’re busting out in blossoms all over now! It just gets better and better! I’m so glad it’s working out so well for you, and that Vince is happy, too! What good would it have been if he weren’t? Maybe “Happy wife, happy life” should be “Happy spouse, happy house”

I’m so happy this move has been positive in ways you never could have known when you were house hunting. Good neighbors make all the difference.
