It’s been close to two months probably since I fed my sourdough. I’ve become an unfit mother! Saturday night I got it out, stirred all the black alcohol/liquid back into it and fed it. I usually put the jar in a bowl but I had only put 30 grams of starter, 30 grams of water and 30 grams of flour in there, so there wasn’t but maybe 1/4 to 1/3 of the jar full, and after two months of not being fed, it almost always takes two feedings before it comes to life so I didn’t bother to put the jar in a bowl.
Vince went into the kitchen yesterday morning before I did and he came back to me and said “There’s something oozing all over the countertop!” Oozing? I wasn’t sure what he was talking about but went into the kitchen to find this:
I originally cropped the pineapple out of the picture but it left a really intriguing shadow on the wall — right next to the oozing jar so I figured I’d show part of the pineapple so the shadow wasn’t so weird.
Today I’ll make sourdough English muffins. Several weeks ago I used the last of what I had in the freezer and I’ve missed having those available.

The blob…except it’s the wrong color. LOL

That reminds me, I haven’t fed mine since…before Christmas? Hope it hasn’t frozen in the back of the fridge! Was at my son’s last night for dinner (he made pizza) and his starter looks good…his came from mine, so I can always get more if it did! Guess I should check on that! Thanks for the reminder!

I’ve had my starter going for about a year now, and have never been able to get it to bubble up more than about an inch in the jar. I’ve even gone so far as to add a little yeast to give it a boost! I think our house is just too cold most of the time, or maybe we have no natural yeast in the air (hard to believe). I keep two jars going, feed every day or two, and use a full cup of starter when I make a loaf. It tastes great, rises the most once it’s in the oven, but all the in-between seems a bit lacking. I’m going to take it and all my bread-making paraphernalia with me when I travel to Oregon in July…will see if anything changes there!

The temp has a lot to do with it but our house is generally 68 to 74, depending on the temp outside. It’s actually been 64 most of today. I have mine sitting not far from the stove so any amount of cooking I do heats up that area. So long as you’re happy with the results, I wouldn’t be concerned about it. It will be interesting to see if it changes. I can tell a difference in the taste of mine from Texas to Missouri.
