I hate to complain about Amazon because it’s pretty amazing what they do. My words say I am not an Amazon fan but my actions speak otherwise. Pretty much anything we want, we can get from Walmart or Amazon (.com for both). I would love to soupport other businesses but when we need it yesterday and their prices are often the best . . it’s what we do.
Vince ordered the computer Saturday afternoon. It said it would be delivered Monday (today). This morning I checked and it hadn’t been shipped yet. I had no hope of getting it today. About mid-afternoon Vince told me to watch for the computer becase it was going to be delivered today. I said “Doubtful. It hasn’t shipped yet.” At about 3 p.m., this is what it still showed:
Delivery by 10 p.m. Still not shipped.
“Delivery by 10 p.m.” makes me believe it’s coming via Amazon delivery service. They have a new “delivery station” in Joplin which “handles last mile deliveries” . . whatever that means. There is a warehouse and distribution center in Republic, which is about an hour from here. I think what happens is things are delivered from Republic to Joplin and the “last mile” deliveries are made by local Amazon drivers from Joplin out into the community. Sometimes they come in what appears to be their own personal vehicles; sometimes they come in white vans that a driver told me was rented til Amazon gets their own. I have no idea. We do still get stuff delivered via USPS and UPS/Fed Ex.
I just checked the tracking again at 6:30 p.m., and now it says this:
Now it says it will arrive by 9 p.m. today and it has been shipped.
We’ll see if it arrives. If it does, it does; if not – then hopefully it will get here tomorrow because the old Chromebook has not allowed itself to charge at all today and I think by morning, it may be a goner!

Judy if the tracking shows TBA instead of USPS FedEx, or UPS then it is with one of their drivers–well at least that is how it is here. They started in their own vehicles when they first started Amazon delivery here, now they have these big almost navy blue vans–the tallish ones with the big ole Amazon smile arrow on the side. I think most of us have a love hate relationship with those companies–but when you get the best price for things it’s hard to say no. Plus sometimes I get things faster than if I think about getting out and going to go get it at the store.

It actually doesn’t even have a tracking number and I never received an email saying it had been shipped. I don’t think there’s a chance of it arriving today.

Whenever I get that “expected delivery by 10:00p.m” message, it always, always means delivery the next day, or later.

Yes. They finally sent me a tracking number. Didn’t even leave Wisconsin til 4 p.m. yesterday. Vince said “Call them and tell them you’re not happy.” I said “They don’t care. I’m not wasting my time. It will be here when it gets here!”

I agree with you – no one cares if we aren’t happy with the service. I wouldn’t mind so much if they actually told the TRUTH when to expect a package. Now that the pandemic is winding down (I am SO hoping that is true and that more will get the vaccine & eagerly waiting till my 2 grandkids, aged 12 & nearly 14, can get THEIR vaccine!), you would hope that the shortages and delivery times would improve. Not so….

You’re right – it’s an excuse for some businesses, certainly not all, to give even worse service. I’ll complain about it but continue to do business with them because it’s about the only option I have but I am not a loyal customer and always try to find things other places before patronizing those places.

I’m never in much of a hurry for things, thankfully. When they come, they come. I think what they do is amazing, too. I have no complaints about Amazon, though I regret all the small businesses left out – on the other hand, small businesses can become part of Amazon, and I don’t know another company that provides that kind of service. I love Prime shipping and Kindle unlimited, too.
Judy Laquidara says
I’m not usually in a hurry either but when they say something is going to be delivered today and it hasn’t even been shipped and there’s no way it will be here for at least two more days, I don’t like that.
