My Chromebook has been misbehaving. Poor Vince. Every day I tell him something else that has gone wrong around here. Sometimes I think he thinks I’m just wanting something new but he should know by now that I much prefer keeping and patching the old than getting new, especially with computer type things where I have to get used to the new one, switch things over . . I’d keep the same computer the rest of my life if I could. I still can’t figure out how I keep accidentally turning the ringer off on my phone. Really . . it’s accidental! 🙂
First it was two ceiling fans, then my phone, now my Chromebook. With the ceiling fans, he was sure it was the capacitor but it wasn’t so he replaced one fan, he got one working by fixing something that was bent. Not sure how a piece gets bent on a fan that’s in a 12′ ceiling but . . it wasn’t my house then. Then it was my phone and until people started calling Vince to talk to me because my phone wouldn’t ring, he didn’t believe I needed a new phone.
With the Chromebook, before Vince got here, one night it just went off . . like I had turned it off. I tried turning it back on and it wouldn’t come on. I tried several different times over half an hour or so and nothing. I figured the next day I’d talk to Vince and see what he wanted me to do. I was up for another three or four hours and it never would come back on. Next morning . . still off. About noon, I looked over and it was on. It hasn’t done that since though several times a day, the screen just goes black. I thought the screen was loose and if I wiggled the top, it would come back on but then I thought the electric cord was loose and if I wiggled that, it would come back on but then it happened when it wasn’t even plugged in.
Yesterday it started getting bright – much brighter than normal, then dim like it was just fixing to fade away to total black and it would come back on. It did that all day so Vince looked at it, saw what it was doing, decided it was time for a new one, which is supposed to be here tomorrow.
Today I looked down and the battery was almost dead but it was plugged in. I unplugged everything and re-plugged it in. I can plug it in on either the left or right side. Neither side worked. I took it to the dining room table and plugged it in there in case the outlet in the living room was bad (though it worked for the cell phone charger). Nope. The same size plug in that charges my Google tablet fits but it’s a slow charger. It took all day to get the Chromebook back up to 45%. Vince ordered a new charger so hopefully it will be here Tuesday and hopefully the new computer will arrive tomorrow so I’ll have something that works and IF there is anything on this Chromebook that I need, I can keep it charged long enough to get it off. I don’t think anything is stored on this tablet but . . what do I know.
And . . hopefully nothing else breaks around here . . except . . Vince’s Honda goes back in the shop tomorrow. Whatever got “fixed” didn’t fix the problem but the problem actually seems worse now than before we got it out of the shop on Thursday. You know what I think . . a 20 year old vehicle . . it’s time to cut your losses and stop spending money. Vince thinks the next fix will solve all the problems. We don’t even discuss it any more but our new Monday morning ritual seems to be taking Vince’s car to the shop!

I admire your patience. Hope it all works out?

It will all work out. In the end, these are small problems.

I may repeat your Chromebook story to my husband. He thinks I have unique problems with computers that couldn’t possibly happen to anybody else. Glad there IS somebody else! 😉

I have a new laptop. A few months ago my old laptop was getting so slow. I was having to restart it all the time because it would just freeze up. Then the sound would come an go. It would say I didn’t have an audio something installed when I know it did. Then the next time it restarted the sound would be back. So I was restarting it all the time. Finally it got to the point that the sound would not come back no matter how many times I restarted it. Finally Done!!! I ordered a new one.

Good for you. Waiting any longer and who knows what would have happened.

I am not going to say anything because I do not want to jinx mine! LOL

I almost never got the Chromebook to charge enough to use it yesterday. I can muddle through comments on the tablet but I absolutely cannot type a blog post without the computer. It looks like a 3 year old typed it. It looks like the Chromebook will arrive Wednesday or maybe Thursday but where the “delivered by 10 p.m.” came from is a mystery!
