Stitch-MAYnia apparently started in 2015 by a couple of cross stitchers. There was a facebook group, which as I understand it is shutting down after the end of May, 2021 but stopped adding new members a while back. I am not in in the group but, of course, you don’t have to be in any group to enjoy Stitch-MAYnia.
From what I’ve gathered, you just do what you want to do – whatever makes you happy, because really . . who cares anyway? Some people will start a new project every day in May. No way am I doing that since I can probably only finish five or six projects in a year. Some people will start a certain number of projects. Some will commit to working on a certain number of UFOs.
Several months ago I made a list of projects I wanted to start IF I did Stitch-MAYnia, then I decided I wasn’t going to do it but now, here we are the day before May 1 and I think I’d feel like I missed out if I didn’t participate my first year back to cross stitching so . . here’s my plan:
I am starting the Blackbird Weekend Stitch Along today and will add today to my Stitch-MAYnia month so that gives me 32 days. Isn’t it lovely to be able to add a day to a month just because I feel like it? 🙂
I am going to do a combination of working on UFOs and starting new projects – four WIPS and four new projects. I will work on each project for four days straight – as many hours as I can work on it, then put it down and go to the next one. The projects with the * beside them will all be new starts.
Here’s my plan, which will probably change before the month of May ends.
- April 30 – May 3 – Deux Oiseaux*
- May 4 – May 7 – Farmhouse Christmas
- May 8 – May 11 – Bless Our Land*
- May 12 – May 15 – Thy Love Divine
- May 16 – 19 – Memorial Day*
- May 20 – 23 – Pet All Dogs
- May 24 – 27 – A House Is . .
- May 28 – 31 – Christmas Rose (Blackbird)*

For some weird reason – unlike knitting or quilting – I don’t like having very many cross stitch projects started at the same time. I have one small Halloween design from the Winds of Autumn book that I will continue stitching for Blackbird Weekend, and one smallish project I may be able to finish tonight (and of course Farmhouse). Perhaps if my fabric arrives tomorrow I will start Dog Declaration – that could be my Maynia project.

I keep hoping I will dislike having too many projects started but, so far . . hasn’t happened.
You really do get a lot done though.
