Who thought we wouldn’t have a garden of some kind? I guess maybe I’m the only one who thought that!
We went to the farmers’ market this morning and they had a ton of plants that the farmers had started. We bought two pots of raspberries and two big tomato plants from a guy from Kansas.
Vince is going to plant these in the ground . . not in the raised beds.
So far, I have tomatoes, peppers and asparagus to go in the raised beds. The first one Vince makes, I’ll fill with asparagus. The second one I’ll fill with tomatoes, peppers but it’s all going to depend on how long it takes to get them made and get the dirt to fill them. I think we’re going to get a load of mushroom compost and mix that with the Keller’s garden oil (in bags) that Vince likes.
As much as I’ve complained about that old pickup, I don’t know where we’d be without it.

Gardening is definitely in your roots, no pun intended….and those fresh vegetables will be so good!
Judy Laquidara says
It is. My dad will be 88 this year and he’s already planted his garden.
Joyce says
What kind of raspberries did you get? I have black raspberries courtesy of the previous owners. I just corralled them from the fence line into a bed…
Judy Laquidara says
Red is all I know because some of them have rasperries on them.
Sharon Malone says
Where do you get Keller garden soil?
Judy Laquidara says
I’m guessing we got it at Home Depot in Texas because that was about all we had.
I’m almost sure Vince said he saw it at Lowe’s here.Home Depot here too!Vince had a customer service issue with Keller one time (bags not sealed properly and they were opening up as he was trying to get them in the truck and out of the truck and it was a big mess. Their customer service was great and he has stuck with that brand since that incident.

Good luck with your raised beds. Ours were used as a salad bar by the deer. :-). They are really fat and happy.
Judy Laquidara says
The first thing we’ll do is put chicken wire around them. Even 8′ chicken wire will keep them out because it’s narrow and they don’t usually jump into places they aren’t sure how they will get out.
We’ve always lived with deer so we protect what we want and let them have the rest.
