It’s official! The old Boots is back. This morning, he jumped over the gate, probably because both Vince and I were in the kitchen and he wanted to be in there with us. He went straight to where Rita was and stretched out on the rug under the table, which was close to her little pen.
Best of all . . he’s playing with his toys! This morning he walked by the quilt Vince uses to cover up when he’s sitting in his chair. Vince had tossed it on the floor last night. Boots walked over it and something caught his attention. He slapped at it with his paw and then was playing with the edge of the quilt. All of his toys were in his little cat hut that he’s never gotten in. He reached in there and pulled a few out and was slapping his jingly ball around for a while.
He hasn’t played with his toys since before he started biting so it’s so nice for him to be playing again.
I came in with Addie; Vince was just finishing up the ceiling fan in Addie’s room (I knew it!), he wanted to mess with the one in his office and he did get it to working. The one in our room was on high and it got noisy during the night so before Vince took the ladder back outside, he pulled the chain (which we can only reach with a ladder – something else to fix) and put it on medium so it doesn’t make noise. Boots was feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the activity so he went down to the sewing room. I went down there when we were finished upstairs, sat with him a while, gave him food and closed the door so he can stay in there and calm down tonight.
I’m so happy to have my sweet kitty back. I have no idea why he was biting . . could be dozens of things. I hope it doesn’t happen again.

Yay! Whatever it was, we’re just thankful it’s gone.

Glad to hear that the old Boots is back. He just wanted his whole family back.

Oh, my goodness! I so hope that it was just the stress of moving, and that he’s over it! Yes, playing is a very good sign. I know a woman who fosters cats, and ones that haven’t had a regular home don’t play; I guess they’re concerned with surviving.

The last three days have been close to normal with him. I so hope it stays that way. He had no interest in playing and until the biting started, he was playing with several toys, my floss skeins when he could get them but he suddenly had no interest in playing. It’s hard to believe he wasn’t feeling bad or hurting but I took him to the vet . . about all I can do.

So glad to hear the good news about Boots!!

He may just be glad to have Vince back again. Pets sense when we are upset and I bet he sensed you needed Vince there. So glad he is better.

hi judy – a little tip to file away. When you pet a cat, and then you take your hand away, lift it UP from the kitty. If you pull it away at a horizontal movement, it can stimulate their prey drive and they will bite or claw in reaction. Sounds like Boots is feeling better, which is GREAT !!! But this little point is big – my kitty used to bite me when i would just slide my hand across the sheet, and i finally learned not to do that !!!! Boots is so cute.
Judy Laquidara says
Oh, I didn’t know that. Thanks!

I’ve been following your Boots saga from day one. I am now wondering if it had anything to do with Vince not being there? Now Vince is home and Boots seems to be fine. Just an observation.

It may be partly Vince having not been here but I do think Boots gets overstimulated easy. The sewing room in Texas was about 27 x 36 and it was full of sewing stuff. He had lots of hiding places and if I was in there sewing or knitting or working on the computer, he’d visit with me, then go to one of his hiding spots where he could still watch me but I didn’t bother him. I think here, he hasn’t yet found his hiding spots yet. He seems to get frustrated when I’m in one room and Vince is somewhere else. It seems like ee doesn’t like having us in separate places where he can’t see us both. Vince is downstairs working in the garage and I’m upstairs today. Boots keeps going downstairs where Vince is, then coming back up where I am, staying only abot 10 minutes in each place. I’ve noticed his pupils are big and black again. Vince came up for lunch and that’s the first time I’ve seen Boots relax this morning . . when we were both sitting together.
It’s a lot of change for him and, looking back, we probably could have handled it better but I had no idea he’d have such a hard time adjusting.

The last time we moved,(1987) the cat we had at that time ended up not leaving the one room we had items stored in for a year and a half. Since the cat wouldn’t come out of the room I moved her food and water and litter pan in there she would sometimes stick her head out the door but didn’t walk out for ever. For a while I thought she would just stay there for ever and then one day she came out and was a regular cat again. SO who knows.. So weird.
